After serving as a British Army nurse in World War II, Claire Randall is enjoying a second honeymoon in Scotland with husband Frank, an MI6 officer looking forward to a new career as an Oxford historian. Suddenly, Claire is transported to 1743 and into a mysterious world where her freedom and life are threatened. To survive, she marries Jamie Fraser, a strapping Scots warrior with a complicated past and a disarming sense of humor. A passionate relationship ensues, and Claire is caught between two vastly different men in two inharmonious lives. "Outlander" is adapted from the best-selling books by Diana Gabaldon.

Cady Lang TIME Magazine The result is two period dramas contained in one thrilling show. May 20, 2024 Full Review John Doyle Globe and Mail The TV version stunned viewers and some critics, including me, and also brought a male audience to the drama. Apr 6, 2015 Full Review Tirdad Derakhshani Philadelphia Inquirer Always fascinating and often quite odd, mad, and weird, Outlander has the most peculiar mix of gothic horror, swashbuckling adventure, magical fantasy, and romance you're likely to experience on TV. Apr 6, 2015 Full Review Natalia Marcos El Pais (Spain) The series engages (more as the chapters go by), manages to maintain interest and entertains. And, above, it has substance. [Full Review in Spanish] Aug 26, 2018 Full Review Terence Johnson AwardsCircuit.com The actors are what really sell this show. The trio of Caitriona Balfe, Tobias Menzies and Sam Heughan are so good in each of their roles that it carries you through each episode. Rated: 3.5/4 Aug 26, 2018 Full Review Alison Rowat The Herald (Scotland) The charm of Outlander is its wired to the moon daftness. It is surprisingly raunchy, too. Elvis P Top notch. Close to Yellowstone One criticism would be that I was hoping to see Jamie or someone bolt there load inside Nell Hudson… She’s super sexy Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/05/25 Full Review Paul E Not worth my time. I watched it because it was highly recommended and had good ratings. I stuck it out through the end of season one to give it a fair chance I found it to be slow, excessively violent, it uses annoying artistic choices like not providing translations for Gaelic and French, the main character is annoying, and ut generally avoids the seemingly interesting story to drag through a much slower and less interesting one. I found the lead character to be annoying and difficult to connect with but aside from that the acting was good and the production quality outstanding. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/04/25 Full Review Sara J As with the books, the first two and a half seasons of this show (which covers until about the middle of the third book) are excellent. Rarely have two characters I envisioned while reading about been brought to life so perfectly on screen as Jaimie and Claire. This story is so heavy, so intense, anybody who couldn't properly fill the roles would come across cheesy AF but Balfe and Heughan as well as the supporting cast all embody the characters brilliantly. While the violence gets a bit ick at times, avert your eyes if need be and forge ahead for the story. The 18th century was, after all, pretty gnarly. Once you get to the middle of the third season...when you know, you'll know...things feel promising and we feel as though we're setting off on yet another fun voyage...but no. Run away! It will never be good again. And if you stick with it a few more seasons and start to think "well surely the worst is behind us now" RUN AWAY. It can always get worserer, and will. Metaphorical sharks have been jumped, wrangled, ridden and fully domesticated by the end of Season 7. If ever there were a reason to travel through the stones it would be to go back and break Gabaldon's typewriter before anybody ever makes it to the Caribbean. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/21/25 Full Review Himura K this is one of the shows you wish you could forget and start again Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/09/24 Full Review Audience Member some things annoy me. so claire is a nurse, but falling through time should have knocked out of her any disbelief in "superstitions and lore" sure, she fell through time from the stones through pagan worshipers, but fairys and witchcraft is too much for her to handle, also, sometimes it seems like soft porn. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/20/24 Full Review Blu S This show is absaloutly amazing! The first season will forever the best! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/29/24 Full Review Read all reviews
