Based on the true story of the Mitford sisters who played by their own rules – with sometimes devastating consequences. Set against the gathering storm clouds of the 1930s, Outrageous is inspired by the lives of the aristocratic Mitford sisters - six headstrong women who frequently made headlines around the world. Yet their lives would ultimately take very different paths – from Nancy who became a celebrated author and journalist, to Jessica who rejected her inherited privilege and dedicated her life to revolutionary causes. A family saga like no other, this is the Mitfords as they really were: unapologetic, outrageous and utterly human.

Judy Berman TIME Magazine Creator Sarah Williams does a remarkable job transitioning from early storylines about a big, warm, eccentric family to later episodes that weigh Diana and Unity’s monstrous choices without succumbing to doom and gloom. Jun 30, 2025 Full Review Ben Dowell The Times (UK) While the script editors could have taken more care with some of the clunky exposition, this is undeniably fun and jaunty. Rated: 4/5 Jun 25, 2025 Full Review Moira MacDonald Seattle Times “Outrageous” works best when it digs deep into the relationships between the sisters, into the question of whether you can love someone who’s disappeared into darkness — but is, nonetheless, still that person you grew up with. Jun 23, 2025 Full Review Diana Keng Geek Girl Authority While Outrageous‘s story is very much a well-paced, engaging setup for a historical train wreck, ... the show is insidiously charming. Jul 5, 2025 Full Review Brian Bromberger Bay Area Reporter It has a breezy tone yet leaves the viewer slightly on edge, as you’re never sure what will happen next. Jul 2, 2025 Full Review Alison Gillmor Winnipeg Free Press The show struggles to convey the weight of wider world events, but it does understand the divided dinner table. Ace S Though the writing is at times clunky, the actors sell the emotional and political heart of the story Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/30/25 Full Review Andrei D The concept is so juicy that it's a shame that the execution is rushed and the actors don't have time do actually created characters Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 06/30/25 Full Review Edward L A second-rate drama about one of the nastiest families in British history. Although there are some good performances (James Purefoy as the deeply unpleasant father), some (Shannon Watson and Joanna Vanderham in particular) are so bad as to be laughable. It is clear, for example that Watson's dialogue has been redubbed. There is an interesting story here but this is not it. If you are interested in Diana and Mosley then watch the 1998 Channel four miniseries 'Mosley'. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/29/25 Full Review John F While it tried hard and there some good moments the script got rather convoluted and unrealistic at times. Too much was explained through the dialogue. The characters lacked confidence and self assurance possessed by the English upper classes. The limitation of the production budget showed through at times If I hadn't been already intrested in the sisters I don't think I'd have watched the whole series. As it was I was left disappointed Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 06/26/25 Full Review Jill B Excellent. Didnt know much about them, so interesting. Worryingly relevant today.
