Didn't expect it to be so good. Not even one single boring moment. It was a bit difficult to figure out their relationship in the first 2-3 episodes. There wasn't any ‘explanation' either. It would get you thinking and eventually you'd get it. what an engaging story!

This is a well written and brilliantly acted story that follows the lives of the two main characters, Costello and Selby, who are both doing their best to love and raise Iris, Costello's young daughter, despite both limping along with their own complex PTSD. Costello is a writer who wants to achieve success, despite the roadblock that is her intersectional place in society. Selby is an elite-born, flamboyant, yet broken man with a violent streak that landed him in jail. Their love of Iris and their desire to not fuck up her childhood is their North Star….

        Absolutely brilliant!

Simply amazing. A very dark dramady done beautifully. Daisy Mae Cooper knocks her role out of the park as a single mom, very rough around the edges, who'll do whatever she needs too to try and take care of her daughter. Her best friend Shelby, a "Classical homosexual", is brilliantly flamboyant and deeply tragic all at once. It's a simply fantastic show and not renewing it for another season should be a crime.

The cast is brilliant and the English dichotomy of socioeconomic classes was spot on however, the plot or there lack of, left much to be desired. It was just as torturous watching talented actors waste their time and energy on this show as were the relationships in the series. The plot never really picked up and went nowhere fast. The sudden transition to the country with no explanation as to how a new job was obtained, how they got there and set up their new lifestyle. It just transitioned from let's go to we've been here awhile living the good life. Deeply flawed editing or writing. The superfluous violence between a toxic friendship was difficult as a viewer to watch as there was no reward for it, no purpose nor real context. This unlikely pair seemed over-the-top and ludicrous at times.

Not really a comedy, we watched hoping to be amused for 1st 2 episodes, though it held our attention well enough. Later we were watching to see how the plot would evolve and if the character's lot in life improved, however the whole thing was wallowing in self indulgent seediness, and in fact none of the characters seemed to want to improve (well not in any conventional way). Lenny smoking and wanking himself to death, Selby just picking fights with the wrong people, and not happy in his own skin. As an effette rich gay kid, with an emotionally traumatic past, he seemed to trash any security offered him, and I have no idea why he is friends with Costello, his complete opposite, though she also from traumatic background, but with a hard bravado veneer, she also never really does the right thing to help her daughter Iris (symbol of youthful purity, innocence and the future). Iris will of course be the future victim due to all the poor depraved adult examples that surround her, and this just leaves one feeling despair for all the parties concerned. There's just no helping some people. Disappointing and very depressing.

I really enjoyed this. It's about real life; personal problems, relationships and how our past can affect our whole lives if not dealt with. All the cast are great and I especially liked Jack Farthing as Selby.

This kind of "Brit Realism" unlike classic British realism is annoying, it has that sense of thinking it knows the harder reaches of life but without ANY sense of having really been there. The result is a cartoonish take on reality which is entertaining enough in a sitcom kind of way but doesn't touch it in a way that someone like Ken Loach always could. What a ridiculous and insulting comparison some reviewer I read from here made.

Absolutely brilliant from start to finish. Daisy May Cooper exceptional as always and the rest of the cast were all sensational. The storyline sent you on a roller coaster of laughter, sadness and heartache. I loved it… her best yet !

        Refreshing, brutally honest, heart warming.
