After having been missing for nearly 20 years, Rick Sanchez suddenly arrives at daughter Beth's doorstep to move in with her and her family. Although Beth welcomes Rick into her home, her husband, Jerry, isn't as happy about the family reunion. Jerry is concerned about Rick, a sociopathic scientist, using the garage as his personal laboratory. In the lab, Rick works on a number of sci-fi gadgets, some of which could be considered dangerous. But that's not all Rick does that concerns Jerry. He also goes on adventures across the universe that often involve his grandchildren, Morty and Summer.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Recasting its titular pair with fairly seamless results, the famously unpredictable Rick and Morty settles into a holding pattern that nevertheless still yields plenty of amusing invention.

Esther Zuckerman GQ This last seven-episode run has been one of the series’ best -- weird, creative, gross and emotional. Dec 21, 2023 Full Review Alan Sepinwall Rolling Stone Whatever character voice is necessary, Rick and Morty still has it, even if its comedic voice isn’t on its strongest possible display at the start of the new season. Oct 14, 2023 Full Review Alison Foreman IndieWire Season 7 moves in the opposite direction -- re-centering Rick and Morty as the leads without seriously evolving them and once again sidelining Summer and the Beths to give Jerry more time on screen. Rated: C+ Oct 13, 2023 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy This season’s guests include Hugh Jackman, playing himself as quite the macho jerk. Rated: 3.5/4 Sep 28, 2024 Full Review Laura Fernández El Pais (Spain) The seventh season has mostly self-contained episodes, injecting a freshness that had disappeared in previous plot-driven seasons. Oct 20, 2023 Full Review Raven Brunner Decider Season 7 is unwavering and confident, and ditches the sad and over-the-top grossness that has turned off viewers in the past. Audience Member This is about as good as Roseanne after they fired Roseanne. Without the sharp wit and eccentrically improvised voices of Justin Roiland, it would be better to just cancel the show. It feels pedantic, forced, contrived, and uninspired. And I'm being GENEROUS. Roiland was prematurely fired (cancel culture) over ALLEGATIONS which were deemed unfounded by a court of law. Hire him back or cancel the show. 3/10 maybe an occasional good episode, mostly skippable. And Rise of the Numericons? I couldn't even get through 5 minutes of that garbage. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 04/30/25 Full Review Audience Member Why bother making Rick and Morty without Justin Roiland? Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/17/25 Full Review Toshio R It has 2 stinkers, one really stinking, one a little stinking. 6 good standard R&M Eps. and then there are 2 so good episodes, they overshadow ALL other seasons. Like, at all. One might be debatable, the other is probably for everyone at least in top 5, for actual lovers and knowers its top 1-2. A season that ends with such a bang, deep, mystical, suspenseful, profound and such a powerful character exploration of Rick as never seen before. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/10/25 Full Review Leanne T The absence of Justin Roilands super vpice talents are sorely missed. The new voice actors attempt to replace Justin, Ruins the performances of the other cast members and the premise of the show for me and many I know who loved! The show... No disrespect to the new voice actors coming through, but it's just lost all magic for me. The other 6 seasons, are so original, fresh, funny...and so creative and just had been, an Epic series thus far, until this season 7😕. I know that issues occur with actors, media and stresses in life and their lives are "broadcasted more than most"...but I've known other actors/actresses do worse than Justin and never got blacklisted from OWN show he created...but hey that's the industry I guess. Unfortunately...I'm losing interest, especially now he's gone...it's felt with every episode and for me it's painful to listen and watch...lost it's mojo for me. I'm addicted with Season1 thru to season 6...and i refuse to watch season 7. True fans Know...say no more.🤦🏽‍♀️😘 Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/25 Full Review Kevin P A refreshing new coat of paint for the series with Justin Roiland's VA replacements doing a solid job and the writing quality having a major glow up. “The Jerrick Trap", "That's Amorte", and "Unmortricken" were the easy standouts of the season and were all bangers with some crazy good concepts and satisfying emotional payoffs that feel right up there with the greats of the first two seasons. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/25/25 Full Review J B It's sad to see how people criticize this season because of the voice. With Roland leading Rick and Morty, the serie was quickly dying. This season is so refreshing and surprisingly can do something with the progression of the characters, which in previous seasons was just stuck. I barely notice the voice differences. I guess if you have it constantly in your mind, you'll find something, but if you watch the actual season, it's just great. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/25/24 Full Review Read all reviews
