Jack the Ripper was a serial killer who butchered a number of women in and around the Whitechapel District of London in 1888. This drama begins about six months after the final murder, with now-peaceful East London hoping that the reign of terror is over. Among the hopeful are members of H Division, the police precinct tasked with keeping order in the district, including Detective Inspector Edmund Reid, a forward-thinking detective haunted by a past mistake that ended in tragedy. While trying to keep order in the chaotic streets of Whitechapel, Reid is soon drawn into the seedy criminal underworld of Victorian London, where each new murder elicits fear that the Ripper may be back.

Grace Dent Independent (UK) I fought through episode one of Ripper Street trying to float above the chat - always all-male scenes - about sperm deposits, ripped-out Fallopian tubes - thinking: "Who enjoys this? Who is this really for?" Oct 22, 2018 Full Review Alex Hardy Times (UK) It's still bally ridiculous at times, but the visuals, stories and soap are so well defined. Rated: 4/5 Oct 18, 2018 Full Review David Wiegand San Francisco Chronicle Ripper Street boasts superb performances, cast and production values, and, beyond the copycat elements, thoughtfully written scripts loaded with surprises and a compellingly complicated moral base. Rated: 2.5/4 Jan 19, 2013 Full Review Jan Moir Daily Mail (UK) How did such a godforsaken, blood-spattered, flamboyantly violent, women-hating television series ever get made in the first place? Oct 24, 2018 Full Review Michael Noble PopMatters The effect is a fictional history that even professional historians can enjoy without making too many dismissive shakes of the head. Rated: 7/10 Mar 17, 2014 Full Review J.C. Maçek III PopMatters As these and other images are not only what they seem, they help also to develop Ripper Street's more distressing themes. Cookie M Visual setting a dark place which never seems to find sunlight. Especially fond of the Captain, though his character gritty, a heart bigger than grand canyon. Disappointed they let his character die, just after he got his son. Reid awkward but bright lost in work, eventually and again puts work over daughter. Ending was blah, maybe I expected a glimmer of sunshine just a little to lighten the ending. Overall it is worth the watch. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/02/24 Full Review Malcolm M Excellent!! But you must be able to tolerate some gory scenes. I'm currently watching season 3, and will be sad when it is over. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/03/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the best series I have ever seen. Each character is fascinating and so well-acted that you forget that this is a show and not a real-time glimpse into the past. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member They need to replace the main characters wife current one is such a Downer Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Best series I've seen since The Game of Thrones Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review shubham s AMAZING !!! It has to be said upfront - " Leman Street team is better than Sherlock". Plot has many twists & turns but most amazing is the depth of each character & their different shades. Victorian Dark Age is shown with some accuracy. A must watch for any suspense fan. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews
