What to Know

Critics Consensus

Roseanne's return finds the show's classic format, original cast, and timely humor intact, even if the latest batch of episodes suffers from sporadically uneven execution.

Judy Berman TIME Magazine What got lost in the scandal was the horror of watching a bothsideist new Roseanne wade into the same morass of political incoherence that had swallowed its star, seemingly unbothered by the dissonance in a matriarch who'd defended the poor for decades... Dec 20, 2018 Full Review Bill Keveney USA Today ABC will take a hit, but survive; Roseanne, it appears, won't. May 30, 2018 Full Review Eric Deggans NPR I think the reboot can recapture the subversive, truth-telling spirit of the original. But it needs to leave the head fakes alone and take its time with stories that better reflect how the original series tackled life in Middle America. May 25, 2018 Full Review David Walsh World Socialist Web Site The new series, like the old one, is a highly uneven affair. There are some amusing lines, there is also a good deal of facetiousness and clumsiness. The situation comedy spins its wheels much of the time. Feb 11, 2021 Full Review Helen Razer The Daily Review/Crikey The network sitcom is doing the work major news outlets have abandoned: making sense of the US election outside of two absolute positions. May 7, 2019 Full Review John Hanlon John Hanlon Reviews The comedy reboot we didn't know we needed. Rated: 3.5/4 Nov 24, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member This show is hilarious! Roseanne Barr is fantastic and hilarious. The show "The Connors" is absolutely horrendous without Roseanne. They're trying seriously too hard, the storyline and plot is just absolutely boring. I'm surprised it's not canceled oh, thank God for reruns of Roseanne. I think it's funny because Nick Cannon can say something so horrible and yet apologize and come back but Rosanne is completely cut out from everything. Makes you wonder if there's something going on there Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Very disappointing. Did not care for it at all. Not going to continue watching it. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member The same magic that made the original series shine is present in the revival. Roseanne Barr is the straw the stirs the drink, though the ensemble cast is nothing to sneeze at. John Goodman and Laurie Metcalfe, along with Roseanne Barr, comprise my all-time favourite sitcom theme. It is a shame that Roseanne Barr's personal issues lead to her exit, though I am hopeful that her legacy remains the ground-breaking, hilarious, and always thoughtful approach to the genre. Like Roseanne herself once said, this is the best sitcom ever made. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member The greatest comedic sitcom of all time Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member It was a fun show to watch. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member The season 10 renewal was one of the best things to happen to television in years. Despite the early cut-off, it's still quite good. It pays homage to '90s sitcoms while reinventing itself for the modern era. The characters seem like real people, with real lives, and real personalities. Exactly what made the original great.
