The animated series is not for children. In fact, its goal seems to be to offend as many as possible as it presents the adventures of Stan, Kyle, Kenny and Cartman. The show has taken on Saddam Hussein, Osama bin Laden, politicians of every stripe and self-important celebrities. Oh, and Kenny is killed in many episodes.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

South Park is gallingly crude in both its humor and art style, but this upstart cartoon is blisteringly funny as it blasphemes against conservative and liberal attitudes alike.

Stuart Jeffries Guardian Really, this wasn't little boys' talk at all; it was adults putting foul corpses into the mouths of innocents, imputing to them all the misogynistic, racist, homophobic vulgarity that their worst elders speak. Mar 15, 2021 Full Review Allan Johnson Chicago Tribune I confess I am enamored of South Park for the same reasons as its fans: It's shocking, sick -- and funny -- humor... [But] strip away all the cursing and violence, and you'll find a sweet, innocent heart. Mar 15, 2021 Full Review Paul Kalina The Age (Australia) Where its contemporaries temper their cynicism with affection and acceptance of their characters' flaws, South Park remains resolutely smug and malicious. The ultimate impression is of a tedious case of arrested development. Mar 15, 2021 Full Review Rich Heldenfels Akron Beacon Journal It is twisted, it is adult and, if you're in the mood for some unapologetically outrageous fare, it is very funny. Mar 15, 2021 Full Review Tim Goodman San Francisco Examiner The new TV season already has its first bona fide bit of genius. It's called South Park, and soon the name of this brilliant, pants-wettingly funny show will be on everyone's lips. But not always for the same reasons. Mar 12, 2021 Full Review Kevin McDonough Sacramento Bee The Simpsons and King of the Hill are the smartest satires on television. However, just because a show is animated doesn't mean it's smart. And to prove that point, Comedy Central unveils South Park. Mar 12, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews

David Manuel R Season 1 is not the best but is ok Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/24/25 Full Review Audience Member The first season is the unformed world of South Park. There are several great episodes («Cartman Gets an Anal Probe», «Weight Gain 4000», «Damien», «Mecha-Streisand» and, of course, the last episode of this season). Although most of the series vary from "questionable" ("Volcano", for example) to "bad". Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/12/25 Full Review Cem Y Just finished whole 27 seasons. Amazing production but I seriously thought that the series reached a completely different level after they introduced Butters. For me, the face of this series is not Cartman, Kyle, Stan or Kenny, but Butters (and then Stan's father). Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/17/24 Full Review David C Son muy groseros y si dan risa Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/05/24 Full Review sebastian s the one started it all Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/01/24 Full Review Mihailo M The characters are unbearable to watch. The things they do are not funny but sad. The cartoon is not funny. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/01/24 Full Review Read all reviews
