A comedy show about a sketch-comedy show where humor is in very short supply. One of the executive producers had a meltdown on the air, the control room is a mess, and the actors aren't much better off. The show's only hope lies in "wunderkind" writers Danny Tripp and Matt Albie (each with problems of his own), as well as new network entertainment chief Jordan McDeere.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

A victim of poor timing, Aaron Sorkin's Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip found his trademark writing style intact and marked a welcome -- if unfortunately short-lived -- return to television for numerous cast members.

John Plunkett Guardian Sure, Studio 60 isn't as good as the West Wing. But what is? It's still better than most of the stuff on the box at the moment. Sep 26, 2019 Full Review Observer Staff Observer The pilot is exhilarating, funny, smart, entirely engrossing, and perfectly cast. In fact, Bradley Whitford and Matthew Perry are so good they almost (almost) had us forgetting their past credits. Sep 26, 2019 Full Review Joanne Ostrow Denver Post Bradley Whitford, Matthew Perry plus Amanda Peet make this wordy drama a standout Sep 26, 2019 Full Review Daniel Carlson Willamette Week With Studio 60, Sorkin slid from telling stories about characters to actually fashioning an on-screen persona for himself, and the result was a giant mess of a TV series where the story always took a backseat to the sermonizing. Sep 26, 2019 Full Review Brad Oswald Winnipeg Free Press Exactly the smart, engaging and unique sort of show we've come to expect from Aaron Sorkin and Thomas Schlamme. Sep 26, 2019 Full Review A.A. Gill Sunday Times (UK) This take on the television industry, free speech, satire and Hollywood was the best opening show of an American series that I've seen since The West Wing. Audience Member This show was excellent. Fantastic dialogue, characters so human you didn't only love them but you then hated them and loved them again. The fact it got cancelled was a shame. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
