Shaun Murphy, a young surgeon with autism and savant syndrome, relocates from a quiet country life to join the surgical unit at the prestigious San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital -- a move strongly supported by his mentor, Dr. Aaron Glassman; having survived a troubled childhood, Shaun is alone in the world and unable to personally connect with those around him, but he finds his niche using his extraordinary medical skill and intuition to save lives and challenge the skepticism of his colleagues.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

The Good Doctor's heavy-handed bedside manner undermines a solid lead performance, but under all the emotionally manipulative gimmickry, there's still plenty of room to improve.

Alex McLevy AV Club Shore has established the boilerplate world, and thanks to his leads, it has potential to evolve. Rated: B- Aug 21, 2019 Full Review Emily St. James Vox Murphy's more rigid way of understanding the world drives much of what makes The Good Doctor stand out. Calvin O I cried while listening this series it's so emotional so touching. Bring you back to reality as we are not super heroes but simple human. Makes you appreciate your life way more. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/22/25 Full Review Nate M This was one of my all time favorites and I'm pretty sure it induced more tears than all other shows combined. I already miss it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/25 Full Review bhoomika S It's a very good series. In starting I thought that it will be boring and it's too long but it's a superb series I'm so obsessed. I cried alot I'm attached to it. You guys must watch this because this is so helpful and knowledgeable also and also have taught the life of a mental patient and how to handle it. It's a good story and a good series must watch. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/28/25 Full Review tamer b The first season is a cinematic masterpiece, and people who love medical information and the atmosphere in surgical operations will really learn a lot from it and discover new things and will also immerse themselves in the events of the story and interact with feelings of sadness And happiness, the series is great and anyyone who watches it will like it, I am very confident of that Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/10/24 Full Review Anne W I know this is probably going to be a very unpopular opinion but here goes, While the show has great stories, characters and relationships, Shaun's rigid inability to even entertain the notion that someone else's opinion may actually be right is almost as frustrating as watching a grown man chucking a temper tantrum! Yes I understand that ASD makes it hard to interpret social queues etc but how much of his at times appalling behaviour is due to the ASD and how much of it is just bad behaviour/manners condoned and accepted by everyone else around him?. And yes I have been around people with ASD before. He is just oblivious to other people's feelings to the point of complete self-absorption. But hey it's just a tv show! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/05/24 Full Review Rafael M Esta buena para verla antes de irse a dormir. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/23/24 Full Review Read all reviews
