Jack Ori TV Fanatic The time jumps effectively demonstrated how doctors went from mistaking the virus for the flu to being able to diagnose patients but not treat them... and later to continually discover new symptoms and new problems related to the disease. letaiser First of all I appreciate that they finally tried something new and different for a new season but it just wasn't very good how they made it and what kind of is bad that always the people (actors/characters) more and more are leaving the TV Show Rated 2 out of 5 stars 12/20/23 Full Review Sean L So much virtue signalling in this season. It's always had a little sprinkled here and there but my god this season was hard to watch. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/17/23 Full Review Lukas-Jeremie K Doctor shows aren't really my thing as I'm always afraid that the medical aspect will take a backseat to make way for shallow drama, but "The Good Doctor" has a very interesting premise - Shaun Murphy wants a surgeon despite his autism and proves that he can be an excellent surgeon even with autism. It also stars Freddie Highmore - who I consider to be one of the most promising actors out there right now after what I've seen of him on Bates Motel. So I thought I'd check out "The Good Doctor"... And as you'd expect, Freddie Highmore delivers phenomenally in his role as Shaun Murphy. Highmore plays the autistic surgeon so well that I've forgotten that Highmore has no such disposition. I also really liked the team that formed around Shaun Murphy – they all complement each other perfectly. ------FOLLOW SPOILERS FROM HERE------- Unfortunately, the series falls off drastically in season 4, which is largely due to the addition of 4 new doctors to the cast. The new doctors just aren't interesting and just take up airtime - time that consequently can no longer flow into the other characters and especially into the main character. This is a very big and annoying problem because Shaun is becoming more and more of a backseat and only appears for a few moments in each episode, which just makes the show miss its original purpose. That's exactly the point I was afraid of - the medical aspect takes a backseat to make more time for loveless drama and the medical aspect is pretty much just someone having cancer or a tumor anyway. The relationships, and particularly those between Shaun and Lea, are also just plain badly written. Most of Shaun and Lea's relationship is just the two of them having sex - I get that sex is something new and exciting for Shaun, but I got that after 2 episodes. I don't need a whole season for this. I think that's a shame, because the series really had an unimaginably great potential that could have been exploited with better authors, but unfortunately it's just boring like this. So boring that unfortunately I had to break off the fourth season halfway through. Most points here are dedicated to Freddie Highmore and his performance, which at least gives you a bit of interest in the series. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/16/23 Full Review J M The writing for much of this season was insipid and flat. The main actors carried their lines well considering how ready the writers were to drop the ball. The season itself did a great disservice to the realities of what people - especially first responders - endured at the outset of the pandemic. Subject matter of the first two episodes aside, the entire season just oozes American exceptionalism, cliché, exposition, and desperate grabs for ratings through vapid token nods towards then contemporary issues. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/04/23 Full Review collin The season is simply terrible. The show took a hard turn. Before this season, the show was about showing interesting medical cases and developing characters. This season, the show is about all of the main online talking points of 2021 (covid, racism, LGBTQ discrimination, etc). I mean seriously— what were they thinking? Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/30/23 Full Review Sara R It's a show for empathetic people. It treats autism as a way to philosophize about grande topics like love, relationships, change and loss and personal growth. It made me realize that I miss out on not having these conversations with people around me. In a rich setting of deep characters we can observe some of the issues of minorities. It's one of my favorites since it makes me feel and think. I know it can make a lot of people uncomfortable. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Read all reviews
