Based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman, this gritty drama portrays life in the months and years that follow a zombie apocalypse. A group of survivors travel in search of safety and security, constantly on the move in search of a secure home. But the pressure each day to stay alive sends many in the group to the deepest depths of human cruelty, and they soon discover that the overwhelming fear of the survivors can be more deadly than the zombies walking among them. At times, the interpersonal conflicts present a greater threat to their continuing survival than the walkers that roam the country.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

The Walking Dead's eighth season energizes its characters with some much-needed angst and action, though it's still occasionally choppy and lacking forward-moving plot progression.

Noel Murray Rolling Stone Let's be frank: The series is clearly in decline. Apr 17, 2018 Full Review Eric Deggans NPR Rick, and his band of survivors... aren't passive victims anymore; they're active and fighting back. It's the way longtime fans are used to seeing them, and it feels good. Oct 23, 2017 Full Review David Sims The Atlantic This new season of The Walking Dead should be more fun to watch almost by default. Oct 23, 2017 Full Review David Hogan hoganreviews.co.uk A satisfying second half doesn't quite make up for a really poor opening eight episodes. A mixed bag of a season overall, but it brings the All Out War to a good end at least. Rated: 3/5 Aug 30, 2021 Full Review Eneko Ruiz Jimenez El Pais (Spain) The ninth season next fall is inescapable, but these zombies do not have more to give. [Full Review in Spanish] Jul 3, 2018 Full Review Jeff Beck The Blu Spot On the whole, season eight was a major disappointment, mainly because they opted to go off on their own and deliver an All-Out War that was lacking just about everything that had made the arc such an exciting read in the first place. Bloxz L boring ass season Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/19/25 Full Review Jakey B Another underrated season that concludes the 'All Out War' storyline well with a more action orientated faster pace and hefts of emotional weight. Not much drama in the first half but the last half has it and its more effective if binge watched. The main death was too painful but also gave this season its emotional anchor that was impactful at the end. Overall, a good season, that does have some pacing issues and isn't the best of The Walking Dead yet at least feels like a complete story with a message that was still riveting most of the time. 8/10 Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/15/24 Full Review James C Quite possibly one of the best seasons of tv i’ve ever watched in my life. Negan is easily the best antagonist i’ve come across in years. The amount of emotion, betrayal, and loss, made this season the most enjoyable yet emotional of the show so far. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/06/24 Full Review Big R yessss yessssss best ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/18/24 Full Review Nick S This is the season I've been waiting for since I started rewatching because this is about as far as I've gone the first time around. It concludes the most important comic book ark and goes into the "endgame". If you wanted, you could end the show here and be none the wiser, maybe even a good move as I've heard it went down the hill from here. There is a noticeable lack of acting and writing quality, especially in earlier episodes. You can tell their shooting times and resources have shrunk and they're doing its best. Though, still, I appreciate it more than the first time around and some of its messages are settling in better for me. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/29/24 Full Review Audience Member Brilliant season of television! This show is fantastic! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/27/24 Full Review Read all reviews
