Set in post-Katrina New Orleans, this hourlong drama series, from "The Wire" executive producers David Simon and Eric Overmyer, follows the lives of ordinary residents as they struggle with the aftereffects of the 2005 hurricane. Says star and New Orleans native Wendell Pierce, "The only things people had to hang on to were the rich traditions we knew that survived the test of time before: our music, food and family, family that included anyone who decided to accept the challenge to return." The large ensemble cast is supported by notable real-life New Orleanians, including many of its famous musicians.

Critics Consensus

A dense, skillful portrait of a city, season three of Treme stays focused on the fiercely loyal characters who must rebuild their community to survive long after the news cycle has ended.

Darren Franich Entertainment Weekly It feels like an attempt at absolute verisimilitude, and in its own start-stop way, it has a rhythm unlike any other show on television. May 25, 2018 Full Review Matt Zoller Seitz New York Magazine/Vulture A crazy quilt of modern urban life that's not afraid of the lyrical interlude, the pregnant pause or the unresolved emotion. May 25, 2018 Full Review Terry Curtis Fox IndieWire The city and its polis may have been damaged beyond repair, but its essence, expressed in its culture, remains. These have been the two poles of Treme throughout the season, mostly given equal weight. May 25, 2018 Full Review Randy Dankievitch Processed Media Television doesn't have to be a high-speed chase to the dramatic endpoint, something Treme reminds us with its meandering narrative, realized characters, and grasp on reality every showrunner in the business should be jealous of. Rated: A- Feb 21, 2020 Full Review Charles P. Pierce Esquire Magazine I don't think I am engaging in spoilers to tell you that the music is still glorious and that the food may cause you to dive through the screen. May 25, 2018 Full Review Will Layman PopMatters There is a beautiful ache to Treme, a yearning that comes from the music and dreams of the characters. It feels like nothing else on television.
