Set in post-Katrina New Orleans, this hourlong drama series, from "The Wire" executive producers David Simon and Eric Overmyer, follows the lives of ordinary residents as they struggle with the aftereffects of the 2005 hurricane. Says star and New Orleans native Wendell Pierce, "The only things people had to hang on to were the rich traditions we knew that survived the test of time before: our music, food and family, family that included anyone who decided to accept the challenge to return." The large ensemble cast is supported by notable real-life New Orleanians, including many of its famous musicians.

Rolf Potts The Atlantic Treme doesn't capture an authentic sense for New Orleans so much as join the city's ragged, time-honored argument about what authenticity should look like... The result is an ambitious, occasionally compelling, consistently frustrating mess of a show. May 25, 2018 Full Review Alison Willmore IndieWire I'm sorry to see it go, except that it went out on such a perfect note of bittersweet complexity -- like the culture it celebrates and mourns and suggests will endure anyway, it's something to have been relished even as it's come to a close. Jan 2, 2014 Full Review Mike Hale New York Times It's to the credit of the show's creators, David Simon and Eric Overmyer, that these characters have become so familiar and alive in only 30-plus episodes. Dec 5, 2013 Full Review Yohana Desta Vanity Fair New Orleans is often referred to as the birthplace of jazz, and Treme takes that honorific seriously - one live show, one house party, and one second line at a time. May 11, 2020 Full Review Randy Dankievitch TV Over Mind It's an episode full of unbridled hope, even in the face of the very real threats... still remaining in the historical city, ending a dark season (and series) on a number of emotional high notes. Feb 25, 2020 Full Review Chris Ball Cleveland Plain Dealer Showrunner David Simon delivers the same brilliant writing that made his earlier show The Wire a cult smash.
