Based on the best-selling Stephen King novel of the same name, "Under the Dome" follows the residents of Chester's Mill, Maine, as they find their small town suddenly cut off from the rest of the world by a transparent dome. While some people start to panic, a small group of citizens -- led by Army veteran Dale Barbara -- tries to maintain some semblance of peace and order, while also attempting to learn the truth about the mysterious barrier, the purpose behind it -- and, most importantly, how to escape it.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Though it reins in some of the first season's absurdity and shows potential for improvement, Under the Dome's second season still feels like a ride with no closure.

Chancellor Agard Entertainment Weekly Where is Melanie taking them? Who knows. Although this has been a particularly rough season, I would be lying if I said I didn't want to know where Melanie was taking them. Mar 29, 2019 Full Review Chris Harvey Daily Telegraph (UK) Under the Dome is never less than interesting, with the dome's attitude towards humanity increasingly reminiscent of the alien visitor in the 1951 film The Day the Earth Stood Still. Rated: 3/5 Mar 29, 2019 Full Review Hank Stuever Washington Post The way certain skeptics feel about climate change is the way I feel about the dome -- and everything under it. I just don't buy Under the Dome on any level. I think the story is a shambles and the concept is dumb. Jun 30, 2014 Full Review John Byrne RTÉ (Ireland) My weakness of will was not rewarded. May 22, 2020 Full Review Mark Dawidziak Cleveland Plain Dealer If not top-tier TV terror fare, "Under the Dome" certainly is solid second-level stuff. And given the state of horror on television these days, that's a bloody good compliment. Mar 29, 2019 Full Review Rebecca Murray Showbiz Junkies Under the Dome has taken itself so seriously and yet it's one of the most nonsensical primetime shows to ever survive more than three episodes. SkyRo P Season two of Under the Dome is a remarkable continuation of an already captivating series. The show expertly maintains your interest by presenting the tantalizing possibility of escape and survival, while delivering the same unexpected twists and turns that made the first season so engaging. I genuinely love this series; it’s truly exceptional. The relationship between Julia and Barbie is particularly dynamic and compelling. Their character development is fascinating; you witness not only their individual growth but also the evolution of their relationship. Unlike many shows that force a clichéd romance, this one unfolds naturally, allowing us to see them mature as individuals and as a couple. I'm equally captivated by Joe and Nori's journey. Their relationship also grows and faces challenges, including jealousy, which adds further depth and intensity to the narrative. Big Jim continues to be a polarizing character. He’s the kind of person you love to hate, but it seems the writers are steering him toward an antihero arc. While I’m not entirely on board with that direction, I can appreciate the complexity it adds. On the other hand, Junior's character arc has been astonishing. He transitions from someone you want to see punished to a character you sympathize with, only to flip back again. This unpredictability makes him fascinating to watch, as the writers expertly make you feel both affection and frustration towards him. The introduction of new characters keeps things fresh and intriguing. Just when you think you have a grasp on the situation, new faces emerge, adding layers to the plot. It’s a brilliant move that keeps you guessing and engaged. Overall, season two has been a thrilling experience, and I am completely invested in this series! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/04/24 Full Review Maja M Season 1 was great, it had great potential and mystery, but from season 2 it all went downhill and turn into ridiculous stupid soap opera. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/29/23 Full Review Benjamin W JULIA PLEASE GET FUCKING CNANCER YOU DUUMB WHORE Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/20/24 Full Review Audience Member its ok. not as bad as they say. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review steve d The show starts killing off all its interesting characters while getting stranger and stranger making one suspect the writers have no idea what they are planning to do next. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Bustle under the dome! The series, Under the Dome, was short-lived but very entertaining. The idea of how to include a handful of people in a dome and then underlie psychological and physical stress, and what they then make of it is very fascinating. Every individual needs it under this dome. Each has its meaning. Whether it's for good or for bad. It's exciting how people interact with each other. Actually, it is also clear why it ended in the third season: In the first season comes unexpectedly a dome over a small town and no one knows where it came from. To answer the question you have to go outside, in front of the dome. This will be addressed in the second season. Unfortunately, it gets too fantastic in the last and third seasons. Extraterrestrials invented this dome and they want to subjugate humanity. The approach of this idea is fundamentally good, but unfortunately it is implemented too quickly and too confused that it loses its appeal. Under the Dome is a good series and also excitingly implemented. Unfortunately, the conclusion comes too quickly and is written too easily.
