Ron M Like much of today's films and TV production, this product contained excellent visual content. But, the history presented contained inaccuracies and lacked any semblance of depth. It was written at a middle-school learner level assuming the audience had little or no knowledge of actual events. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/20/25 Full Review Alex K The documentary was an absolute standout, not just for its breathtakingly vivid colorized footage but also for the sheer depth of rare, never-before-seen clips that brought World War II to life in a way I’ve never experienced. The music and sound design were on another level—haunting, powerful, and perfectly timed to elevate every moment, making battle sequences and historical events feel immediate and visceral. Unlike many other WW2 documentaries that recycle the same footage, this one unearthed fresh material that added new layers to familiar stories, making it a must-watch for anyone with an interest in the era. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/16/25 Full Review kit t I not a big Netflix fan, however I am a WWII amateur historian/collector and this was an excellent production down to the score. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/06/24 Full Review dave b I was born in 1948 and am a WW2 junkie. Excellent. Lots of footage that I had not seen before. Good narrator. Excellent colorization. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/23/24 Full Review Dave S Remarkably shallow depiction of WW2 which seems to prioritise visuals over actual content. Below average For example, 1) There is much coverage of the Nazi invasion of Poland, but the Russian invasion is missed completely. Likewise brief coverage of Ukrainian civilians welcoming the Nazis, with no explanation of the Holomodor (the forced starvation of 6-8m Ukrainians by the Soviets). There is no coverage of the Japanese occupation of China. Each of these are critical for understanding pre-war conditions & world affairs. 2) The battle of the Atlantic is missed completely - the winning of which was critical for the invasion of Europe. 3) The Allied bombing campaign is covered from the aspect of the huge civilian casualties, but not that it was essential to clear the Luftwaffe from the sky prior to D-Day. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/26/24 Full Review Alissa G The visuals and editing are first rate. Ditto the colorization of the footage. The problem is the narrator…. his diction is poor enough to intrude on the experience. Such a shame that they couldn't find someone with less accent. We couldn't determine if this person was Australian, South African, Caribbean, or what, but this incongruity was the only thing that kept me from giving it 5 stars.
