Arturo Venegas
After studying at London's Drama Center, character actor Arturo Venegas made his debut on British television in 1985 with a recurring role on the murder mystery mini-series "Cover Her Face." He also made his film debut that year, in the American comedy "Bad Medicine," which starred 1980s everyman Steve Guttenberg. Two years later, he shared the screen with two legendary English actors, Michael Caine and John Gielgud, in the austere conspiracy thriller "The Whistle Blower." Venegas was garnering regular work in television with one-offs on British series like the action-packed drama "Saracen" and the investigation-centered mystery show "Taggart" when he snagged an eye-catching supporting role in writer-director Anthony Minghella's offbeat tale of love eternal, "Truly Madly Deeply." The romantic comedy, which starred Alan Rickman as a ghost who lovingly haunts his old girlfriend, won a BAFTA and launched Minghella's career in film. More movie roles for Venegas soon followed, including supporting roles in the 1992 American romance "Year of the Comet" and the lesser-known British feature "Under the Sun." Then in 1999, Venegas briefly appeared opposite popular American actress Julia Roberts in the boy-meets-movie star romance "Notting Hill," penned by England's heralded romance writer Richard Curtis. Venegas would go on to pop up in two more of Curtis' films, the ensemble holiday romance "Love Actually" and the zany single girl sequel "Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason." He continued to make the occasional television appearance, like his guest role on the Spain-set British sitcom "Benidorm."
