Birthplace: Chicago, Illinois, USA

Born and raised in Chicago, Carol Mendelsohn attended Smith College and Cornell University, and later George Washington University Law School. After a brief stint working in law, Mendelsohn decided it wasn't for her and moved to Los Angeles, where she pursued a career writing for television. She began on some rather unmemorable shows such as "Hardcastle and McCormick" and "Wiseguy," though she did pen a few episodes of "The Love Boat" and "Fame" in the early 1980s. In 1994, she worked on her first major hit, the prime time soap "Melrose Place," both as a writer and producer. After "Melrose Place" ended she wrote and produced for the short-lived "Providence," but quickly moved on to what has been her bread and butter and one of the biggest hit shows of the decade, "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation." Writing for and producing the show led to work on the show's two spin-offs, "CSI: Miami" and "CSI: NY," which began in 2002 and 2004 respectively. Her work on CSI has led to several awards nominations for both her writing and producing skills, and she has become a well-known and respected member of the Hollywood television community. In 2010 she worked as a producer on the series "The Defenders."
