Daniel Lopatin

Daniel Lopatin became a renowned electronic musician under the name Oneohtrix Point Never, keeping up a constant, prolific pace of work with countless collaborations, side projects, and soundtracks in addition to his OPN albums. Lopatin was born on July 5, 1982 in Wayland, Massachusetts, getting some of his fascination with music (not to mention some of his earliest electronic gear) from his musician father, a Russian emigrant. After relocating to New York City, Lopatin started to release his own music under a variety of names around 2006. He put out recordings under the monikers Dania Shapes and Chuck Person as well as Oneohtrix Point Never. In addition, the late 2000s and early 2010s found him working as a member of several groups including Infinity Window, Skyramps, Astronaut, and Ford & Lopatin. He released his first full Oneohtrix Point Never LP, Betrayed in the Octagon, in 2007, but it was 2009's Rifts, a collection of his early recordings going all the way back to 2003, that really put him on the map, earning him attention in the experimental music community both in the U.S. and U.K. Lopatin became busier and busier as he went along, working with an ever-increasing array of artists and appearing at 2010's All Tomorrow Parties festival. His profile increased even more when he signed to the renowned British label Warp, which released his R Plus Seven album in 2013. In 2017, he crafted a soundtrack for the indie film "Good Time," winning the Cannes Film Festival's Soundtrack Award and working with Iggy Pop on one of the tracks. Over the course of his career, Lopatin has delved into a variety of electronic styles, from ambient minimalism to Tangerine Dream-esque "Berlin School" sounds and straight-up experimentalism. On his 2018 album Age Of, co-produced by British pop star James Blake, he ventured into pop song structures and even did some singing.
