John S. Ragin
A native of New Jersey, John S. Ragin is best known as Dr. Robert Asten, a crime-solving medical examiner opposite Jack Klugman on "Quincy M.E.." Ragin went on to appear in nearly every episode of the long-running show, a precursor to the forensic drama "C.S.I.." It was the biggest role of his career by a large margin; Ragin appeared only in guest roles in the years before and after "Quincy M.E.." Nevertheless, he saw some success in the late '60s and early '70s before being cast as Dr. Asten, with smaller recurring roles on the spy spoof "Get Smart" and the procedural series "The F.B.I.," followed by a supporting turn in the Warren Beatty conspiracy drama "The Parallax View" in 1974. That same year, Ragin played the second-largest role of his career, as Walter Cramer on the family drama "Sons and Daughters." After "Quincy M.E." ended in 1983, Ragin worked only sporadically, appearing on an episode of "Murder, She Wrote" in 1987 and holding a minor recurring role on the soap opera "Santa Barbara" in 1990.
