What to Know

Critics Consensus

Remixing Roger Corman's B-movie by way of the Off-Broadway musical, Little Shop of Horrors offers camp, horror and catchy tunes in equal measure -- plus some inspired cameos by the likes of Steve Martin and Bill Murray.

Little Shop of Horrors is jivey, senseless fun. The stupidity is appealing, the way it is in great comic strips. Go to Full Review

Levi Stubbs's big voice explodes from the insatiable plant, and there's a knockout turn by Steve Martin and Bill Murray as a sadistic dentist and his masochistic patient. Go to Full Review

Some of the slower tunes tend to grind but the sort of musical/ retro irony is still amusing in places. Not if you don't like dentists though. Go to Full Review

Adam Jan 23 This is my favorite musical! It surprised me they played the alternate ending! Big fan. See more Andrew L Nov 30 This is absolutely one of my favorite movies. I recently found out about it just looking for something to watch and now I’ve watched at least four times in the last two weeks. The music is very catchy. The characters are super fun and theatrical. Not to mention the fact that no movies are shot like this anymore. The set design is impeccable and really gives a great atmosphere but still keeps its theatrical roots. I’m obsessed with this movie! Sometimes I put it on in the background just to listen to the music, the songs have been stuck in my head 24/7. Modern movies could never take the effort to animate a demon puppet plant See more TheMovieSearch R @TheMovieSearch Oct 17 Little Shop of Horrors is one of the most iconic and enduring films of all time. Rick Moranis delivers a pitch-perfect performance as Seymour, the meek florist whose life changes when he discovers a mysterious Venus flytrap that develops a taste for human flesh. And of course — “Feed me, Seymour!” — an immortal line that has earned its place in pop culture history. This movie is gloriously cheesy and unapologetically corny in all the best ways. It captures that perfect blend of camp and creativity that defined 1980s cinema. It’s funny, heartfelt, and bizarrely wholesome despite its dark premise — a combination that keeps audiences of all ages coming back decade after decade. The story’s balance of horror and humor is masterful. Even as Seymour’s actions grow more questionable, the film maintains its charm and energy, allowing the audience to revel in the absurdity rather than recoil from it. That blend of tones is part of what made the film so special — so much so that it evolved into a beloved Broadway musical and a cultural phenomenon. Little Shop of Horrors is infinitely rewatchable. It’s the kind of film that fits any mood — a bad day, a good day, or anything in between. It’s a cinematic comfort blanket, capable of lifting spirits and sparking laughter every single time. A classic in every sense of the word, Little Shop of Horrors continues to prove that great stories never die — they just keep singing.
