What to Know

Critics Consensus

Remixing Roger Corman's B-movie by way of the Off-Broadway musical, Little Shop of Horrors offers camp, horror and catchy tunes in equal measure -- plus some inspired cameos by the likes of Steve Martin and Bill Murray.

Pauline Kael The New Yorker Little Shop of Horrors is jivey, senseless fun. The stupidity is appealing, the way it is in great comic strips. Sep 13, 2023 Full Review Walter Goodman New York Times Levi Stubbs's big voice explodes from the insatiable plant, and there's a knockout turn by Steve Martin and Bill Murray as a sadistic dentist and his masochistic patient. Jan 9, 2018 Full Review Empire Magazine Some of the slower tunes tend to grind but the sort of musical/ retro irony is still amusing in places. Not if you don't like dentists though. Rated: 2/5 May 25, 2011 Full Review Wesley Lovell Cinema Sight Although its B-movie origins are a selling point, there are moments when the film feels a bit forced. Rated: 3/4 Jul 6, 2025 Full Review Kristy Strouse Wonderfully Weird and Horrifying With a hearty dose of camp and a campy bit of heart, there’s enough horror to satisfy genre fans and catchy tunes to sing you through the night. Dec 9, 2023 Full Review Danielle Solzman Solzy at the Movies If you've only seen the original theatrical cut of the horror comedy musical, it's worth watching Little Shop of Horrors: The Director's Cut! Adam This is my favorite musical! It surprised me they played the alternate ending! Big fan. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/23/25 Full Review Jace T I'll never forget the first time I watched this movie. I wasn't big on musicals at the time, but ended up watching this movie in class. Shortly into the story, I was hooked. The story, songs, alt-horror, and oddity of this movie is so unique and absolutely astounding. Is this one of the greatest musicals of all time? Absolutely. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/13/25 Full Review Nim T Watched the old version of the movie. The remake in 1986 was very good as the usage of the music along with the singing gave a lively vibe for the cast. The acting was good because there were interactions that felt in harmony to the difficult life that one would live in NYC, such as finding a place to live and how to make a living. The design of the plant and to make it talk is a difficult task that is worth acknowledging. Steve Martin being a villain is not very common, but nevertheless he was able to bring the villain with his humor. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/12/25 Full Review Stephen C Funny in 1 hour and 33 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The USA grossed over $36,500,000.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/10/25 Full Review Joshua H Little shop of horrors proves it classic status with it's memorable soundtrack and silliness Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/09/25 Full Review Nick O A glorious musical celebration of camp and kitsch, that takes the concept of the original 60’s cult classic and turns it into something truly weird and special.
