What to Know

Critics Consensus

Remixing Roger Corman's B-movie by way of the Off-Broadway musical, Little Shop of Horrors offers camp, horror and catchy tunes in equal measure -- plus some inspired cameos by the likes of Steve Martin and Bill Murray.

Pauline Kael The New Yorker Little Shop of Horrors is jivey, senseless fun. The stupidity is appealing, the way it is in great comic strips. Sep 13, 2023 Full Review Walter Goodman New York Times Levi Stubbs's big voice explodes from the insatiable plant, and there's a knockout turn by Steve Martin and Bill Murray as a sadistic dentist and his masochistic patient. Jan 9, 2018 Full Review Empire Magazine Some of the slower tunes tend to grind but the sort of musical/ retro irony is still amusing in places. Not if you don't like dentists though. Rated: 2/5 May 25, 2011 Full Review Kristy Strouse Wonderfully Weird and Horrifying With a hearty dose of camp and a campy bit of heart, there’s enough horror to satisfy genre fans and catchy tunes to sing you through the night. Dec 9, 2023 Full Review Danielle Solzman Solzy at the Movies If you've only seen the original theatrical cut of the horror comedy musical, it's worth watching Little Shop of Horrors: The Director's Cut! Rated: 5/5 Sep 18, 2023 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review One of the more delightful aspects of Little Shop of Horrors is how well it blends tragic characters and bloody murder with a genuine, heartfelt romance - an unlikely balance. Adam This is my favorite musical! It surprised me they played the alternate ending! Big fan. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/23/25 Full Review Memphis A I don't know how to start this review, but this movie has change me life. I never seen so much commitment in my life, all the actors and puppet performances abosulte killed it. I would honestly recommend watching the directors cut version, but the normal film is still prefect. Mean Green Mother From Outer Space and Don't feed the Plants is where the film peaks. My only complaint is they left out songs from the Stage,Musical, like Close for Renovation, Its Just the Gas, Call-Back in the Moring, and Ya Never Know. Yes Some Fun Now is a rework version of Ya Never Know, but Ya Never Know is just superior. It also sucks that they cut out most of The Meek-Shall Inherit, because that was Rick Morains best singing performance. This film is just so spectacular, an aqAbsoalqute Must-See! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/21/25 Full Review Miles O This was great, very entertaining cinema....and I usually hate musicals 😂 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/26/25 Full Review Kevin P A very fun and stylish horror comedy musical. I was pleasantly surprised by how many classic comedians appear in this movie, including Rick Moranis, Steve Martin, John Candy, and even Bill Murray. The songs are very catchy and are seamlessly woven into the characters and narrative. Audrey II is hysterical as the villain that slowly creeps in as it lets everyone’s guards down. But luckily there’s still enough going on with the main story that’s carefully balanced by the fast pace that wastes no time. I appreciate both endings, as they go in wildly different directions in the best ways possible. Three puppetry with all the killer plants is very impressive and clearly took a lot of time and effort from Frank Oz. It’s definitely an underrated Halloween classic that’s right up there with Rocky Horror Picture Show, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Sweeny Todd as some of the best horror musicals of all time. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/24/25 Full Review Dave C Never seen it before... how?! Lol. It's right up my street. Zany, quirky, funny, warm, and it has some great songs. Love it Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/22/25 Full Review Ian H Wonderful, warm, witty. Great songs, great cast!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/01/25 Full Review Read all reviews
