Brian Bisesi Horror Movie Club Podcast Most notable for Tom Savini’s excellent practical effects, The Prowler was also written and photographed with more care than many of its peers. Despite an underwhelming third act, this film stands out as one of the highlights of the slasher subgenre. Rated: 3.5/5 Mar 27, 2024 Full Review Alan Jones Starburst We're on familiar ground once again with all the stock-in-trade elements... but under Joseph Zito's taut and atmospheric direction it all comes together in a neat, well put together package. Jul 28, 2022 Full Review Kellie Haulotte 1428 Elm While it does get lost in the mix of the others slashers of the decade, The Prowler is still worth the watch. Fans of the slasher genre will appreciate the movie the most! Dec 6, 2018 Full Review Tim Brayton Antagony & Ecstasy A film with these specific strengths ought to be at least worth it for the [slasher] genre faithful, and it is - but it is solely for the faithful. Rated: 4/10 Jul 25, 2015 Full Review Felix Vasquez Jr. Cinema Crazed Another of the fine collaborations between Tom Savini and Joseph Zito, both of whom know how to deliver damn fine slasher fare. John F Surprising how well it was received by critics, given this is little more than a copycat of others released around that time (My Bloody Valentine and Friday the 13th come to mind). Zito is clearly best at producing suspenseful moments and it has some good kills, but other aspects of the film (especially the "twist" at the end) are poor and let it down. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/07/24 Full Review Lucas t The best part of this film is the prowlers head exploding. The other kills are very good too but that's my favourite one. 6.7/10. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/16/24 Full Review Jayster 3 Decent. This movie is quite slow and sometimes boring. It’s a pretty basic 80’s slasher, but it’s got some great gore and that makes up for it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/16/24 Full Review Rob C Along with the first two Friday the 13ths this is an essential slasher to see. A truly scary killer which haunted me since I first saw it in the 80s. Even now it holds up thanks to Tom Savini’s incredible kills. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/09/24 Full Review TiffyBeSoRandom M Aside from the deus ex machina ending (which still doesn't make sense to me) and the at times slow pace. I love how this movie was written and shot. However it did feel like the night in movie would go on forever. I couldn't tell how much time had passed which probably helped the movie since I didn't have a chance to think about how the killer could be in so many places at once since I once again couldn't tell how much time had passed. The movie had some moments that I thought was genuinely funny. Despite the many characters the script had to choose from only a few died, however I did like the death scenes, they were creative. I deeply enjoyed the first 10 minutes, the story was set up very quickly yet very believably. The following story, our main story, doesn't quite make sense to me and how they killer moved the bodies is besides me. This is my first watch and I'd say this movie still holds up years later.
