Audience Member Ade reveals herself as a real auteur with this one. The emotions are so true to life and sometimes unbearably painful, but unlike "Der Wald vor lauter Bäumen" this film also contains some moments of levity. There are beautiful moments of humor done in a way that doesn't seem to be for the viewer, but rather like inside jokes unique to this couple, and yet the viewer is allowed to join in their contagious laughter. Ade still reminds me a lot of Haneke as a director — in her subject matter and willingness to stare unblinking into chaotic and dangerous emotions — but I find her films imbued with even more verisimilitude and maturity. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Any thing can be made into a movie basically, but this was kind-of-blah. Tolerable, but then the ending...WTF??? Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member As far as I can tell, Birgit Minichmayr is a Goddess of Acting. From her first frame, I was mesmerized. This movie, like all good movies or symphonies, had a strong exposition, a clear departure from that home base, a tense development, a definite climax, and a revealing finish or return to a new home base, where everything is different, but calm, playful and hopeful. For me, I was deeply impressed with the honesty with which these characters cared about each other, hurt each other, expressed their pain, and yearned for better times. In the end, I highly recommend this movie for superb acting, excellent script and raw emotion. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Gitti is nuts. Take her out of the plot and the movie would be, well, even more boring. Ed Koch The Atlantic The movie is a visual treat, but Everyone Else, which makes no sense as a title, should have been called Pretty Boy, Girl, and Island. Jan 13, 2018 Full Review J. R. Jones Chicago Reader Maren Ade has created a minutely detailed portrait of people so exclusive they wind up excluding each other. Feb 16, 2017 Full Review Marc Savlov Austin Chronicle If you haven't been in this relationship, then you surely know someone who has: Chris and Gitti are as recognizably human as a glance in the morning mirror, and just as strangely distorted. Rated: 3.5/5 Sep 10, 2010 Full Review Dustin Chang Floating World Simple in its aesthetics (heavily dependent upon two leads' actings) and brutally honest in its depiction, this 'relationship drama' rings very true to me. Very refreshing. Mar 24, 2021 Full Review Yasser Medina Cinefilia The rhythm has dormant effects. It's a film without many dramatic dimensions. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 5/10 Jul 15, 2020 Full Review Lindsay Pugh Woman in Revolt "Everyone Else" is probably the best film about a disintegrating relationship I've ever seen. Ade has a real knack for visually representing deep emotions. Oct 24, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews
