Comedian Alvy Singer (Woody Allen) examines the rise and fall of his relationship with struggling nightclub singer Annie Hall (Diane Keaton). Speaking directly to the audience in front of a bare background, Singer reflects briefly on his childhood and his early adult years before settling in to tell the story of how he and Annie met, fell in love, and struggled with the obstacles of modern romance, mixing surreal fantasy sequences with small moments of emotional drama. John Simon New York Magazine/Vulture Allen is easily our most literate comic, and may just be our most comic littérateur, as readers of his humorous sketches know. But his new film is painful in three separate ways: as unfunny comedy, poor moviemaking, and embarrassing self-revelation. Aug 26, 2022 Full Review Janet Maslin Newsweek Annie Hall is bracingly adventuresome and unexpectedly successful, with laughs as satisfying as those in any of Allen's other movies and a whole new staying power. Aug 26, 2022 Full Review Charles Champlin Los Angeles Times Annie Hall is not only Allen's newest film, it is also his best. It seems the most directly and obviously autobiographical. Aug 26, 2022 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy Picking out a favorite sequence is about as impossible as selecting a favorite line of dialogue (although I’ve always been partial to the description of the spider that’s “the size of a Buick”). Rated: 4/4 Jun 5, 2024 Full Review Serge Daney Cahiers du Cinéma [Allen] is not merely a cinephile-filmmaker as so many are today... he is a filmmaker working from what, in cinema, matters to us now: that every image involves a point of view, that every point of view divides, and that every division is productive. Feb 14, 2024 Full Review Mark Johnson Awards Daily One of the most brilliant and inventive comedies, Woody Allen’s Annie Hall is his most grounded and accomplished work. Bittersweet and hysterical, Annie Hall is one of the most quintessential romantic comedies. Jun 8, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

ed m Still a classic. One of the best romantic comedies Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/09/24 Full Review Luke S First time viewing! Neurotic characters abounding in New York (and throwing LA a lot of shade). Most of us... need the eggs. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/29/24 Full Review nick s This movie could easily have flopped, but it was elevated enormously by the relentless neurotic charm of Woody Allen and his whiny accent. Great support cast. Also some nice artistic flurries to break up the story and prevent it from dragging it's heels. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/08/24 Full Review Jeff M For my money, this is the single greatest romantic comedy of all time. It feels like lightning in a bottle - the cinema gods all came together and arranged for the right people to come together at the right time with the right material. Allen and Keaton are a dream couple for the ages, and the film ranges from sidesplittingly funny to achingly romantic, often within the bat of an eye. Say what you will about Allen, but as a screenwriter, he is practically peerless. And watching him wander through California as if he were in another galaxy, it's comic perfection. This is a deserved winner of four Oscars - Picture, Director, Actress and Screenplay. And I'll take one ANNIE HALL over a dozen movies with J-Lo planning weddings or Kate Hudson losing guys in ten days. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/17/24 Full Review Blu B Smart, Really Freakin' Funny, and super meta at times. It moves at a lighting pace and the fact that outside of a small handful of musical numbers there isn't any soundtrack to speak of, the fact it never feels dry in the slightest is a testament to how ridiuculously amazing Allen's performance is and some of the sharpest dialouge I have ever heard in a comedy or movie in general. The gags are hilarious and original filled with tons of underlying commentary on relationships: the good, the bad, and the ugly. It's super original and something everyone should check out once. All Time Classic. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/26/23 Full Review Crey Fish S This humour really did it for me. Exceptional dialogue with a fun fourth wall breaking motif.
