John Simon New York Magazine/Vulture Allen is easily our most literate comic, and may just be our most comic littérateur, as readers of his humorous sketches know. But his new film is painful in three separate ways: as unfunny comedy, poor moviemaking, and embarrassing self-revelation. Aug 26, 2022 Full Review Janet Maslin Newsweek Annie Hall is bracingly adventuresome and unexpectedly successful, with laughs as satisfying as those in any of Allen's other movies and a whole new staying power. Aug 26, 2022 Full Review Charles Champlin Los Angeles Times Annie Hall is not only Allen's newest film, it is also his best. It seems the most directly and obviously autobiographical. Aug 26, 2022 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy Picking out a favorite sequence is about as impossible as selecting a favorite line of dialogue (although I’ve always been partial to the description of the spider that’s “the size of a Buick”). Rated: 4/4 Jun 5, 2024 Full Review Serge Daney Cahiers du Cinéma [Allen] is not merely a cinephile-filmmaker as so many are today... he is a filmmaker working from what, in cinema, matters to us now: that every image involves a point of view, that every point of view divides, and that every division is productive. Feb 14, 2024 Full Review Mark Johnson Awards Daily One of the most brilliant and inventive comedies, Woody Allen’s Annie Hall is his most grounded and accomplished work. Bittersweet and hysterical, Annie Hall is one of the most quintessential romantic comedies. Jun 8, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 12/01/24 Full Review Bloop S It's downright horrible Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/17/24 Full Review David H I have been revisiting some of Allen's older films recently. This is a fun one. It’s much better than the one which preceded it, Love and Death, which almost no one has ever even heard of these days. *** I like the soliloquies and the strange little dialogues he has with strangers passing by on the street. The conversation he has with the vapid critic standing behind him in line at the movies is particularly entertaining. Especially when Allen has Marshall McLuhan waiting in the wings to defend his notion that the professor knows nothing about McLuhan or philosophy generally, even though he claims to be a film professor at Columbia University *** As with any older film, it's always fun to see footage of places like New York City and Los Angeles in the 1970s, a time when I was coming of age and just dying to get out into the world to see these very places. The balcony of Annie's apartment is especially alluring. I would love to know where in the city it is exactly and to be able to stand out on it and take in the view. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/06/24 Full Review Ava S The insights on relationships and smart humour are there, forming the foundation for a romance classic, but Annie Hall stumbles slightly in terms of entertainment value. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/22/24 Full Review ed m Still a classic. One of the best romantic comedies Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/09/24 Full Review Luke S First time viewing! Neurotic characters abounding in New York (and throwing LA a lot of shade). Most of us... need the eggs. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/29/24 Full Review Read all reviews
