Audience Member Realistic depiction of life in Brest before and after brutal Nazi invasion of Brest, Belarus. Intense war scenes shown along with incredible acts of bravery. I did not think it was a propaganda movie. There were some very memorable characters and relationships. Reminded me of the movie Warsaw. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Simply one of the greatest war movies I have ever seen. So realistic. Emotional. Real. Must see. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review andy f The amazing story of the Nazis invading Russia during World War II. Told from its beginnings at The Brest Fortress in Belarus. One of many excellent contemporary Russian movies and one of the best WWII movies of the last decade. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Michael D Brutal but, a realistic depiction of a doomed command wholly unprepared and expecting of the great German betrayal of WII. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/23/19 Full Review Audience Member This is a movie for WWII buffs; the Russians speak Russian, the Germans speak German, and all of the equipment and uniforms seem legit. The Panzer 3s even look like real Panzer 3s (I checked the tread wheels). It's the story of a Russian fort that is surrounded in the early days of the Nazi invasion of Russia. It's sort of like a Russian Alamo. Maybe because it was made in Belarus (as opposed to Hollywood), it's a pretty straight telling of the story with minimal melodramatic BS added. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member A gripping film that details the doomed heroism of the Red Army defenders of the Brest fortress. It is especially interesting as it shows the political context , the role of the NKVD as a military unit not just political overseers. If you just like war films, and can cope with subtitles, then watch this great film. If you are also interested in politics you will get an added dimension. Yes there is a pr opoganda element but no one can doubt the heroism of the military and civilian defenders who resisted so bravely, for so long.
