Neil Norman London Evening Standard Minghella's movie is stern and lucid for the most part and immensely enlivened by the presence of Zellweger and Hoffman who bring amusement to their roles. Jan 11, 2018 Full Review Nell Minow Common Sense Media Excellent but upsetting, only for older teens. Rated: 4/5 Dec 22, 2010 Full Review Time Out If the love story is asked to carry more weight than it can bare, at least this is a film of rich measure and ambition. Jun 24, 2006 Full Review David Walsh World Socialist Web Site This unconvincing "timelessness" is the film's weakest aspect. The work takes the form of a series of disconnected and discrete episodes, without essential inner connection, and becomes somewhat tedious as a result. Feb 15, 2021 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com Minghella fans will be happy. Rated: 3.5/4.0 Sep 5, 2020 Full Review Micheal Compton Bowling Green Daily News While it may not be the best film of the year, it is still a solid effort worthy of most of its pre-release hype. Laurie E. I don't generally care for war movies, but this had a good balance between the front lines of the Civil War and the far reaching effects it had on most aspects of American life. The cast and characters were well developed. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/14/25 Full Review Chris H A great film, epic and emotional in all the right places. It's about what war does to people's natures and what it can and cannot destroy. Kidman and Law are excellent and Zellweger is worth every molecule of that Oscar. The rest of the cast are fabulous too - look out for many, many familiar faces, including a cruel and lecherous Ray Winstone. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/08/25 Full Review Paul T There is an old saying in movies if you don’t like cold Mountain then what are you doing reviewing movies ? I mean in 2045 we will suddenly here how great this film was by then brains will have evolved to make us realise that is film was closer to the civil war period than any movie ever made including Lincoln, This is one man’s story of a fight to go home , And with a cast of Oscar winning actors it must get 5 stars no question about that ! I mean I’m Pretty sure it won at least one Oscar against a heavy hitter list that year , The performances are outrageous Ray Winston is so good I forgot he is from London , This is an epic like the 1960’s they don’t make films like this anymore and they didn’t make them at the time Dances with Wolves is probably the only thing close to this as an epic , It’s a film so good that it gets no praise anywhere because it doesn’t need it , It’s stands there and says here I am Cold Mountain I will make you laugh I make you cry but I never be boring no Sir . Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/08/25 Full Review Monic Kenya M Well directed by Anthony Mingwella, great camera work. Great performance of Nicole Kidman, Renee Zellweger. Judd law. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/21/25 Full Review thiago s Filme bacaninha, o roteiro é mais ou menos, as cenas são bacaninhas, a história é fraca, o elenco é mais ou menos, e ninguém ajuda a melhorar o filme, os personagens são mais ou menos, e o filme deveria ter cenas bem melhores e relevantes Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 07/31/25 Full Review mark g Although a brilliant book, this movie was crushed by over the top "southern accents." Even quality actors like Hoffman and Kidman were just silly. Then you have Zellweger, who sounds ridiculous, and she's from Texas! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/28/25 Full Review Read all reviews
