Rene Rodriguez Miami Herald College Boys Live breaks your heart even as it horrifies and leaves you feeling aghast that Adams continues to operate his website, with a new group of residents moving in every six months. The damage being done could well be irreparable. Rated: 3/4 Apr 30, 2010 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member College Boys Live (yeah, that's the real title) is like watching an entire season of Big Brother-both the drama that goes on in front of the camera as well as behind. The guys who move into the CBL house aren't professional actors or reading from scripts; they are souls searching for something they think they can find in front of gawkers on webcams. We get snippets of dramatic storylines from an unhinged roommate to problems with neighbors and houses. Yet the film moves from one storyline to another so quickly, few of the boys actually distinguish themselves. Of course, the problem ones are memorable, but for all the wrong reasons. We also get to meet one devoted fan...one creepily devoted fan. Production values leave a lot to be desired-the film looks like it was shot with basic consumer cameras. But that adds to the "allure" of the picture. I still feel like showering. The entire venture feels like a promotional ad for the website, and just a touch exploitative. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member A mixed bag but I was pretty interested - although I probably wouldn't have watched this if it weren't for how close this is to me and what I'd seen on the news about this a few years ago. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a haphazard mess. One that I recommend everyone rushes out to see. On the technical side of things, this is just a disaster. It has no structure. There's no context for anything. Until the later tacked on ending, I had no idea what year we were even in. With CRT monitors and wallpaper and bleached blonde hair, I figured we were dealing with 1995. In the end, it (inadvertently) makes it clear that it was 2003. So my question is: how come 2003 Florida looks like 1995 New York? I mean, I was completely floored. The technology they were using in 2003 was outdated years prior. Windows Media Player... on a Mac. Live video streaming at 34 kbps. This is just insane. Also, why was this movie an hour and a half? That's just wrong. Moving on, I'm not sure what or who the documentary is about. It's also unfortunate that every single person on camera is really doing trying their hardest to set back gay rights fifty years. It's clear that every single person on camera is not necessarily mentally equipped for living an everyday life. In fact, I'd argue more than anything that this gay webcam house is almost like a wayward home for boys with serious mental and behavioral issues. It might sound harsh, but my face was cringed the entire running time. The "boys" are not necessarily what I would call handsome. In fact, they're all very difficult to look at. Except for Tim's nose. But seriously, watch this and pay attention and once the film is catching up with where the boys are now, be ready to laugh so hard that you actually might faint. As a documentary, it's shit. But as a slow burn comedy with an epilogue that's right out of Christopher Guest film, it's kind of amazing. I should add that my mouth was completely jaw dropped open the entire running time. So that's sort of special. It's a constant assault of mistakes. That wallpaper! A Bob the Builder pillow that cradles the boys as they masturbate! A Pikachu pillow! Teletubbies! I'm not even sure these people aren't considered mentally disabled. It's so sad to hear how these people ended up in Florida. It's like where dreams go to die. The more I type, the more I feel like upping my star rating. Just watch it Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Uncomfortable behind the scenes documentary about a 'webcam house' where the owner takes white trash gay boys who are clearly damaged and exploits them by giving them free accommodation in exchange for online 'chats' with clients. One classic line read ' we don't ask the boys to do sexual acts on camera, just to get naked for the last half an hour of the chat'. That about sums it up. The documentary makers succeed in capturing the tragedy of these boys lives and the unsavoury nature of sexploitation. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member I love this movie! A "look at what living in a media fishbowl does to emotionally wounded people, College Boys Live follows three young gay men who agree to move into a house with webcams in every room and have their lives broadcast to a paying audience on the Internet." It's both tragic, funny and really edgy all at once. We are really inside a reality online show, and it gets VERY real. I wanted to shout at the screen at some points! It is a documentary that really puts you inside these young gay kids lives as they are dealing with this incredibly sexually charged world. Usually gay themed documentaries are about a cause, or political, this one is like a real movie...if you are a reality TV fan, or if you love docs, you will definitely love this.
