Wayne K As a lifelong fan of heavy metal, Deathgasm spoke to me on a somewhat personal level. The writer/director Jsaon Lei Howden has said that his taste in music made him something of an outsider at school, something I also experienced to a certain extent. The film is unabashed in its adoration for the genre, but it isn't above taking a few sly digs at it, such as highlighting the ridiculous number of subgenres, or the fact that the more extreme metal bands have such outlandish and incendiary names. But it all comes from a place of love and admiration, and the lead's position as an outcast make total sense, and provides the films emotional centre, as does his relationship with girlfriend Medina, a woman who is sceptical about heavy metal music but not adverse to the idea of listening to it, an attitude that provides her character arc. The blood and gore levels are cranked, quite literally, up to 11, but since its played for comic effect we don't have to pretend to take it seriously, so we can just laugh at the absurdity of the dismemberment, decapitation and some of the more ‘unique' kills the film has to offer. It might come across as silly and gratuitous to many, but for me it was a film with a lot of heart, a great soundtrack and an undeniable sense of fun. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/29/23 Full Review Lagrange P Just plain fun. Tropes abound but are delivered with deliciously self-aware style. Solid if not remarkable performances drive a stupendously silly premise executed with obvious delight. Plenty of over-the-top gore, buckets of blood, geeky teenage angst, dripping irony, and plenty of laugh out loud moments. This crew really got the most of their budget, and obviously had a great time doing it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/21/23 Full Review Thomas J So i just watched deathgasm and it was so fucking awesome but for me as a metalhead it was just even more awesome go watch if you love horror movies and metal Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/13/23 Full Review Audience Member While this movie had some good gore it sadly had little else. If all you care about in horror is gore you'll love this, but if you want good characters or plot then you can skip this. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Zakk is really what makes this movie so good. This movie is ridiculous but so fun to watch. It's very gory. There's a lot of crud humor but I would watch it again. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member A great horror comedy for metal heads and horror fans.
