Eu particularmente não sou fã de trash, mas tenho que admitir que esse filme é muito bom. Além de ser divertido e ter humor, ele também coloca o metal em cena, trazendo até algumas piadas com referências. É legal a forma que eles conseguem juntar metal com terror. O gore é realista, o humor suaviza as cenas, e é um filme bem adolescente. Gosto desse conceito.

Brodie muda para a cidade do seu tio, depois que sua mãe é internada em um hospício. Lá ele passa a ser rechaçado pelos tios e sofre bullying no colégio por parte do primo, por gostar de heavy metal. Ele acaba fazendo amizade com Zakk, um cara que quer mais que tudo se exploda. Assim, ele formam uma banda de rock: a Deathgasm. Tudo começa a mudar quando eles invadem a casa onde mora um cantor de heavy metal que está afastado do show business. Lá eles encontram uma partitura antiga e decidem transformá-la em uma das músicas da banda. O que eles não sabem é que esta partitura serve para convocar um terrível demônio. Temos aqui uma boa mistura de terror e humor, que será bem mais apreciada por quem conhece heavy metal e suas inúmeras ramificações e denominações, inclusive a trilha sonora são de várias bandas dos gêneros mais pesados desta vertente. O elenco é muito bom, principalmente o mais jovem, que carrega o filme e passa a sinceridade necessária para acreditarmos. O humor é bem variado, indo de um escatológico, até um mais inteligente. O filme abusa das cenas de sangue e gore, com um excelente trabalho de maquiagem e efeitos visuais práticos. Aumenta o som!

As a lifelong fan of heavy metal, Deathgasm spoke to me on a somewhat personal level. The writer/director Jsaon Lei Howden has said that his taste in music made him something of an outsider at school, something I also experienced to a certain extent. The film is unabashed in its adoration for the genre, but it isn't above taking a few sly digs at it, such as highlighting the ridiculous number of subgenres, or the fact that the more extreme metal bands have such outlandish and incendiary names. But it all comes from a place of love and admiration, and the lead's position as an outcast make total sense, and provides the films emotional centre, as does his relationship with girlfriend Medina, a woman who is sceptical about heavy metal music but not adverse to the idea of listening to it, an attitude that provides her character arc. The blood and gore levels are cranked, quite literally, up to 11, but since its played for comic effect we don't have to pretend to take it seriously, so we can just laugh at the absurdity of the dismemberment, decapitation and some of the more ‘unique' kills the film has to offer. It might come across as silly and gratuitous to many, but for me it was a film with a lot of heart, a great soundtrack and an undeniable sense of fun.

Just plain fun. Tropes abound but are delivered with deliciously self-aware style. Solid if not remarkable performances drive a stupendously silly premise executed with obvious delight. Plenty of over-the-top gore, buckets of blood, geeky teenage angst, dripping irony, and plenty of laugh out loud moments. This crew really got the most of their budget, and obviously had a great time doing it.
