What to Know

Critics Consensus

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore avoids some of the pitfalls that plagued its predecessor, but lacks much of the magic that drew audiences into the wizarding world many movies ago.

Audience Says

It's a little long and the effects might be better than the story, but for fans of the franchise, this is a fairly Fantastic sequel.

A.A. Dowd The Week It's very clear, watching these movies, that they're adapted from a branded guidebook. They have all the dramatic interest and excitement of a manual. Apr 22, 2022 Full Review Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times This entertaining Harry Potter prequel buries memories of the Grindelwald disaster. Apr 22, 2022 Full Review Tiffany Babb Chicago Reader While perhaps the best Fantastic Beasts film, The Secrets of Dumbledore remains a dour movie with lots to say but not enough imagination or understanding to say it well. Apr 22, 2022 Full Review Calum Cooper Flick Feast The Secrets of Dumbledore is a rare film that somehow manages to be both overstuffed and undercooked simultaneously. It’s almost admirable how vacuous it is as a piece of storytelling. Rated: 2/5 Jul 15, 2024 Full Review Juanma Fernández París El Nuevo Día (Puerto Rico) [Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore] focuses more on generating nostalgia for the magic of the Harry Potter films than on giving it a creative spark to sustain the entertainment of its plot. [Full review in Spanish] Dec 5, 2023 Full Review Pradeep Menon Firstpost It might just be the best film of the spinoff franchise yet. Rated: 3/5 Oct 10, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Tina S LOVE all these movies Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/17/22 Full Review Jenna Marie Inspired me to be me. Its time to get back in the game. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/27/22 Full Review Gerri S I really enjoyed the insight into Dumbledore, his relationship with his brother, and his affair with Grindelwald when they were teenagers. Mads Mikkelsen was good as Grindelwald, but I miss the edge that Johnny Depp brought to the role. Very enjoyable. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/14/22 Full Review Marilee Seemed like some parts were irrelevant to overall (should have been left on the cutting room floor) but overall was better than I had anticipated without Depp. Not my favorite in this trilogy though, I think it got a little lost on what it could have been. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/14/22 Full Review Kara H The movie was great, it explains a lot of what was hinted at at the end of the second movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/16/22 Full Review Shaun D Awesome, can't wait for the rest. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/12/22 Full Review Read all reviews
