Critics Consensus

This sequel is little more than an excuse to stage elaborate, gory scenes of characters getting killed off.

Rated: 1.5/4 Jun 19, 2003 Full Review Megan Williams Battle Royale With Cheese Despite the occasional flat writing and strange editing, the film takes a familiar concept and executes it in a way that makes it different and interesting. Overall, ‘Final Destination 2’ is a worthy sequel. Oct 29, 2024 Full Review Michael Walsh Nerdist Final Destination 2 is legitimately an excellent movie; it's a fun and suspenseful film that manages to improve on the original in every way while also standing entirely on its own. Jan 31, 2018 Full Review Steve Newton Georgia Straight Just the fact that it manages to keep the viewer involved despite the plot's general ridiculousness makes it the most effective Vancouver-shot horror flick in years. Josh A This is basically on par with the first film, maybe even a bit better. It feels like a natural follow-up to the first film's events and tone, while still feeling like a standalone movie. Let's just get right into it. The story is basically the same as the first film except it's a motorway accident and the events of the first film cause the events of this one. So the main thing to talk about here is the kills. They're more tragic and less funny mostly, as the characters are people we get properly invested in and who clearly don't want to die, which makes this feel a bit different, but they are still gory. Also notice how I said "mostly". The ending kill at the barbeque is still funny. Also the links to the first film are cool, with how a group of people got out of Death's plan via consequences of the first film, and Death is trying to correct what happened there. It's a great concept that sort of wraps up the duology of the first two films, as the next films are less connected. Overall, it's a worthy sequel to the first film. Can't wait for the next one! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/25 Full Review Justin T The casting isn’t as good as the first film but the film itself is still very entertaining. It progresses the story slightly, whilst still giving you very much more of the same. The pacing is probably a bit better with more regular deaths but it does suffer from being very slightly more forgettable but for no obvious reason. Everything looked good except for a slow-motion explosion near the end of the film which wasn’t a very special effect. The sound design is engaging, especially watching with surround sound. They really understood the format, slowly building up the process leading to someone’s death, like a sick Rube Goldberg machine. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/08/25 Full Review Rob E I honestly adore this movie, this is THE Final Destination film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/30/25 Full Review Julian S FINAL DESTINATION 2 is a soulless copy of its predecessor, filled with shallow characters and a lead who seems as disengaged as the audience enduring it. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/13/25 Full Review Joshua P If there was no Final Destination after this, the series would have been perfect. The first Final Destination was great, and this is great, and then the next one is good. And the next one is ok, and eh and then bad. They just got worse. But this one is amazing, I love it. Gory mess is always cool. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/01/25 Full Review Hailee B Uhm, I was lowkey confused the whole time I did wish the characters had more of a connection it was very bland to me. I will say you amped up the gore like that traffic scene Jesus everyone-fucked lol aint no way claire going keep living death will always come back in mysterious ways.
