Jack Charlton has lived a life like no other. A World Cup winner with England, he was one of football’s first true TV personalities, with an outspoken charm that stretched his profile far beyond the game..As a manager, his success leading Ireland transformed not just football but a nation. The decision of the Irish FA to choose an Englishman as their manager was controversial – ‘Go Home Union Jack’ was displayed on a banner at his first match in charge. He ended up a Freeman of Dublin, an honorary Citizen of Ireland, with the Pope asking for an audience with ‘the Boss’ rather than the other way around. If there was a rank above President of Ireland – Charlton would have held it.

Stuart Jeffries Guardian Clarke and Thomas could have made three poignant documentaries from the material they elegantly spliced together. Rated: 4/5 Apr 1, 2021 Full Review Ed Power Daily Telegraph (UK) While football fans will have enjoyed raking over the coals of, say, Ireland v England at Euro 88, it was through bearing witness to a great man's decline that Finding Jack Charlton shredded the heartstrings. Rated: 4/5 Mar 30, 2021 Full Review Donald Clarke Irish Times Gabriel Clarke and Pete Thomas have resisted all temptations to tread water with a charming film that bolsters the legend without giving in to hagiography. Rated: 4/5 Dec 4, 2020 Full Review Edward Porter Sunday Times (UK) The contrast between the placid, dazed old man and the famously bullish character we see in the film's review of his football career is the guiding principle here, and it's sensitively handled. Rated: 4/5 Nov 29, 2020 Full Review Rich Phippen HeyUGuys An essential film, made with love for the man, his life and his enduring legacy. Rated: 5/5 Nov 27, 2020 Full Review Pat Stacey Irish Independent This is a celebration of a unique football man who did a unique service to this country. Thanks for the memories, Jack. We'll take care of them for you. Rated: 4/5 Nov 24, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews

Leaburn O A very touching documentary about the memories Jack Charlton created but interspliced with scenes with Jack just before his death as he suffers from dementia, leaving him unable to remember those same memories. Of course the Jack Charlton story is worth hearing on its own so it made for a lovely documentary.
