As a musician, I found this unfunny and small-minded. I admit, I stopped watching after the opening bits that broadly dissed jazz, blues and zydeco in turn. Maybe he is trying to be "edgy" and his stage character is a bit of a racist or an ignoramus? That is my best guess.

It could've been something really cool but it's not funny and not really relatable as a drummer. Also, the non music related jokes in there are boring and they kind of break the pace. I'm only giving two stars because of the good idea.

Definitely would be hard to get some jokes if you weren't knowledgeable about the world of drumming, but within that world he hits it right on the nose. It picks up at his segment of accents through the map, and sustains itself through the end. Not something you find yourself laughing audibly at often, but thoroughly enjoyable and it's so relatable I've referenced it amongst friends a few times.

Performing drum-themed stand-up comedy was a really good idea but somehow "Standup For Drummers" turned out to be quite the missed opportunity. There's a lot of irrelevant - and not particularly funny - jokes, not enough drumming and overall nothing that essential neither from a comedic nor a musical standpoint. Fred Armisen is likable and this special isn't bereft of good bits, it's just really puzzling how he managed to waste the potential it had.

I got really excited for this being a drummer myself. Fred Armison. Drums. Two things that I love but, there are a number of cringe moments in this special. He goes from talking about drums, to doing accents of every state of America, to acting like a decomposing fox. It's all over the place in content with literally ZERO segways or transitions between jokes. I only gave it two stars because he tried reaching out to musicians which no comedian really has done. I love you Fred Armison, you were a beast on SNL but this one felt like it needed a lot more preparing and practice before airing on Netflix. Love you man.

Fred Armisen's "stand up for drummers" has about 3 jokes that are actually funny. It's mostly showing off for other drummers who don't play for a living or are very young, his show is a lot of stuff that every drummer should already know. Which probably explains why there are only 50 or 60 people in the audience. Still Fred omits or does not know to mention Chic Webb at the 1940's "trap" drum set. (serious points off for that one)
I don't think he's ever played in a band, or ever really studied music. I mean really, how the hell do you have a comedy show about the life of a drummer without a single story, or joke, or any mention of bass players?? Or lead singers ? (a dead give away). Instead he fills time with pointing to a map and doing the accent from every city in the U.S.. brilliantly, but wtf does that have to do with drumming?
There are too many inside jokes in the act that only professional drummers have actually lived through and really get, but I guess they'er entertaining for the GC crowd if it makes them feel like they are in on it too.
Lastly, Fred Armisen is a great comedian, and a less than mediocre drummer at best who doesn't understand jazz.
"stand up for drummers" is bull shit.
Do yourself a favor and watch "Documentary Now" instead.
That, is genius!
