Russ Simmons KKFI-FM (Kansas City) Rather than being a depressing examination of hatred or an FBI crime procedural, “Garden City, Kansas” is instead an uplifting look at how immigrants have invigorated and enriched that previously declining town. Rated: 4/5 Oct 13, 2023 Full Review Chris Salce Film Threat The film does a fine job of displaying the many layers of cultures and the good and bad that come with being a foreigner. Erin K An inspirational modern-day tale of overcoming intolerance. This film perfectly encapsulates the powerful, residual impacts of traumatic events on afflicted communities, and how to grow beyond them. Garden City, Kansas highlights the heart and soul of a town that embraces diversity and connects the audience on a deeply human level. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/28/23 Full Review Kelly T A lot more complicated than you might think at first - this film doesn't just talk about the bomb plot to destroy dozens of families in Garden City but takes a good look at how so many different kinds of people in the town have worked hard to make a thriving community that is truly their own. Just a gorgeous film that is SO timely, so necessary in this time of polarization. Garden City, KS gives you hope that there really is a lot of common ground and makes me proud to be an American. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/12/23 Full Review Hilary W I loved the authentic and complex human experience depicted in this documentary. It is tremendous at showing how the best and worst of us hold prejudice. It humanizes the immigrant experience in a way that would shatter many preconceived notions, and demonstrates this across domains, legal, educational, civic, etc. Garden City records precisely what the American Dream is and who is fighting against the promise of America. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/11/23 Full Review John M Fascinating doc and super relevant to the era we live in. It reveals what so many Americans have been feeling for decades, that our country needs to rethink immigration in a major way. Suspenseful too, tells the true story how the FBI and good citizens thwarted a potential domestic attack. Really makes you think. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/11/23 Full Review Anjie M The lengths this movie goes to, to make you believe the opposite of what is true is remarkable in its own way. Horribly misleading and the writing is so one sided and misconstrued that it was almost impossible to watch. Why lie when the truth is bad enough?
