Just a gorgeous film that is SO timely, so necessary in this time of polarization. Garden City, KS gives you hope that there really is a lot of common ground and makes me proud to be an American. It is tremendous at showing how the best and worst of us hold prejudice. It humanizes the immigrant experience in a way that would shatter many preconceived notions, and demonstrates this across domains, legal, educational, civic, etc. Garden City records precisely what the American Dream is and who is fighting against the promise of America. It reveals what so many Americans have been feeling for decades, that our country needs to rethink immigration in a major way.
