Audience Member By now, everyone is accustom to the plot device of having seemingly separate characters being intertwined with each other somehow. Recent films include Crash, Babel, Vantage Point etc. some of the films that use this technique to tell its story can be good, even great, while some are less successful. In Search of Sex belongs to the latter category. The connection of the characters in the film is so impossible it's ridiculous. I know the saying 'truth is stranger than fiction' and somewhere out there something like this may have happened (completely unlikely though), but to have the characters related to each other in this way is not clever. It is contrived. It is a plea to the audience, saying 'ohh look at us, witty screenwriters. I bet you didn't expect this to happen, did ya?!' Granted, I didn't expect it to happen--no one would have. Why? Because of the incredulity of the circumstances. Needless to say, the writing is completely off. The characters, amazingly, have been introduced well, but they are all one-dimensional. We do get to see some dimension in a few characters, but really, the characters are either: all good, all bad, or a combination of the extremes (and I don't mean they're in between--I mean at times they are either the greatest person or the worst). What's odd is that each segment the character is allotted has a potentially interesting story to tell. The writers amalgamated 10 characters with their own stories. About 6 of those had the necessary drama to make a feature. What the movie's problem is that it tries too hard at every corner. It tries hard to create drama, be clever, be sickening. Had the writers split this into different movies, they would have had a better result. The acting also had plenty of problems. Sure, the actors are committed to their roles, but their abilities as actors are completely lacking. It's a low budget film, so the chance at getting really seasoned actors weren't promising, but still I don't think anyone could forgive the acting that went on in the movie. There isn't much to say other than it's a movie with a ridiculous premise, characters whose actions are deplorable and almost unbelievable, acting that's well below subpar, and below average writing. 1.5/10 Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member InSearchOf my money back. What a woefully written, directed and acted film. Characters so two dimensional they could slip under the door I opened to leave the room. Mercifully the R (18+) rating will have seriously restricted the number of people subjected to this rubbish. The consequences of the actions these people found themselves compelled to do would have been interesting if any kind of connection had been established with the characters in the first thirty minutes or so. Shallow motivations and dialogue so dire I feel a primary school child could have been hired as script consultant and cranked it up a notch or two in believability. InSearchOf (Sex). I was, so in that respect it didn't disappoint. Frankly, and I feel a little uncomfortable saying this, but The Reader was more erotic than this. Ok, ok, InSearchOf is not marketed as an erotic film. But the title and the rating kind of lend themselves to the notion that you might get a little bit aroused watching this. Don't take this on a hot date indoors unless your date is one of the actors. Not the worst film ever, but I haven't seen everything yet... Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member Although sounding a bit far-fetched, melodramatic, fairly neat & decent for a low budget production like this. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member I question what Zelker really wanted to raise out of people through this film, but this film raises some really good questions. Definitely for mature audiences, InSearchOf digs unrelentingly deep into the hedonism of a large group of interrelated people, depicting causal relationships and unintended consequences. Though not a uniform piece of art (with some irregular scene changes and some inconsistency of technique), the urgency and relevance of the message are hard to miss. If you are capable of critically analysis (not crude gratification), watch this. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
