David Fear Blender Anyone who’s read Jon Krakauer’s best-selling nonfiction account knows the details, but actually seeing McCandless’s travels is still thrilling. Yet... are we supposed to salute this foray into the wild or shake our heads at the sheer idiocy? N P "Into the Wild" is a heart-wrenching POV of one young man's path to self discovery and happiness. Based on a non-fiction book, Chris' ultimate goal is to dwell in isolation amidst the Alaskan nature side, as he felt controlled and hurt by his parental relationships. As beautifully said in the film - "happiness is only real when shared", it's the journey and those you happen to encounter along the way is truly what life is about, not the idealised destination (as cliche as it sounds). Happiness was right there with him all throughout the movie, but time again and time again, he couldn't identify it, confront it and walked away. Unfortunately, he realised this too late; who knows how his life could have gone moving forward as he re-entered society and have enriched his familial and newfound relationships. This sentiment is permeated throughout the film through real, compassionate and genuine performances from the supporting cast, our wide-eyed, determinedly poignant protagonist rivetingly by Emilio Hirsch, amazingly introspective directing by Sean Penn, great choice of a serene, chill soundtrack, and a dedication to the cinematic focus on nature, cities, deserts, beaches, rivers - any type of setting the story takes place in. I truly felt like I was with Chris, every step of the way, all the way to the very end, where I was left baffled and at the brink. It's truly a moving piece. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/10/24 Full Review Bruce P Well put together movie for sure but felt like a really romanticised portrayal of a guy who was in reality a self indulgent brat who put his family through hell so he could eat roadkill in a tent. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/21/24 Full Review Faiz D An incredibly beautiful, moving and heartbreaking film. Absolutely loved it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/29/24 Full Review Blu B Reminds me of a cross between something like Jeramiah Johnson and The Straight Story. A Western Road Movie Adventure type of thing. It's got a timeless message and everything is masterfully done. It feels like a dream quite often with how gorgous the vistas are shot and everything follows a logical order as well. Never in the slightest feels jumpy between the past and present also. A real testament to the editing and direction. Everyone should try this once. real impactful and meaningful. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/13/24 Full Review DSWW W One of the most powerful films of my life time. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/24/24 Full Review Aidan B With bold directing and an astounding performance from Emile Hirsch, "Into the Wild" is an absolute triumph that tells a fantastic story with style and charm.
