Thomas H It was not a bad movie and certainly stuck to the story, however I thought it was kind of flawed .. would have been better to focus on a smaller set of the characters (it was all these 35-year-old guys with two-week beards and bright insulated jackets, a few were distinguishable, plus the two ladies) .. timeline of the movie did not align with the timeline of the climb real well .. soundtrack was kind of overblown. It did make me feel like it was cold up there. Not the worst way to kill 100 minutes. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/06/24 Full Review karen m Not that it hasn't been said before, but Wow, does this suck. I just finished re-reading Jon Krakauer's book, this portrayal really bears no resemblance to the facts. In addition, it's sexist, racist, confusing, and the soundtrack reminds me of The Poseidon Adventure. Frankly, inserting Shelley Winters and Ernest Borgnine into it might have been an improvement. Everest (2015) is still flawed but certainly does a better job than this dog. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/02/21 Full Review Audience Member I feel this movie is somewhat racism. It portrays Asian characters as morons including Yasuko Namba where she appears very coward and seems to unable to control her emotion in the movie. The fact is Namba was one of very few women on this planet who ever completed the Seven Summits, even until now, which proves she was very experienced and skillful. The movie portrays her very childish and seems inexperienced. Besides from Namba, it also portrays other Taiwanese climbers as idiots who wear slippery socks and walk on icy surface and end up with death (it would be really idiot of the film maker to write such script for experienced climbers). The movie seems to pick on Asian people which somewhat looks racism, especially to Namba. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Tells the basic story of Krakauer's book but fails to bring anything else to the table. The music is terrible and the acting isn't much better, much of it bordering on overwrought cheesiness. The running narration contains foreshadowing that is not even the slightest bit subtle. It's fun to see character actors Richard Jenkins and Jeff Perry pop up in small roles, but otherwise this is not very good; you'd be better off waiting to see Everest. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Absolute dumpster fire of an absolutely incredible novel. The acting was awful, and the writing/directing even worse. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the worst movies i've seen- Completely ruined the book.. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Read all reviews
