Audience Member Yet another potent film from Ken Loach. This is complex and view of exploitation from both end of the issue. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Not my idea of entertainment Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member A story of modern slavery. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member As always ken loach make it happens The charming angie wanna make her way through the world and achieved a succesful life. The problems is that she does it the wrong way losing a little by little her grip on the reality of the world. It starts slowly until the people around her becomes nothing but exploited people serving her own success. As she says it according to the title "it is a free world".A one without rules without name or no one exist.Something she thinks being the path of her success where in fact it won't. As usual ken Loach use a very realistic style ,being as close as it can be to reality.Doing the best he can to render its movie as natural as possible with his perennial idea of showing and talking to the viewer about the social reality of our peers. It is effective and ken Loach question us on our morality pretty much as well as he describes and show us the underworld of immigrants. It is a social cinema an engaged one very close to reality with the purpose of affecting us positively without never being preachy.Furthermore once into it the film proves to be very entertaining speaking and interesting;which derives from the good quality of ken Loach's work. The term of social description of immigrant world has many time be used in cinema notably by Stephen frears in "Dirty Pretty Things" with great talent and realization nevertheless these movies often overlaps too much on one side of another sometimes with purpose sometimes by failure here ken loach enough succeed by bringing together both .It is true he is also very well supported by an excellent actress, Kierston Wareing. Now It's not honestly the best social movie around or the best Ken Loach but it stays in his kind definitely a very good movie to watch. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Avec l age Mr Loach ne perd rien de sa demarche sociale. It s a free world, sans concessions, une descente dans l'enfer du travail clandestin, ouvre les portes d'une realite qui a lieux sous nos fenetres quotidiennement. Jonathan Rosenbaum Chicago Reader I emerged from this story feeling sadder and wiser but was never fully engaged. Apr 1, 2010 Full Review Peter Howell Toronto Star Newcomer Wareing delivers an award-worthy performance as the steely Angie, who is impossible to hate even as she descends deeper into the moral abyss. Rated: 3/4 Apr 25, 2008 Full Review Kamal Al-Solaylee Globe and Mail The film's bleak but powerful ending is a wake-up call to Britain and a measure of the pessimism of Loach, one of its most trenchant critics. I fear things must be really bad over there. Rated: 3/4 Apr 25, 2008 Full Review Martin Tsai New York Sun It is also fiercely uncompromising, as one would expect of Mr. Loach, fully penetrating the plight of migrant workers in Britain, where other recent films, such as “Dirty Pretty Things” and “Once,” merely treated it as window dressing. Apr 21, 2023 Full Review David Walsh World Socialist Web Site The director has the capacity, as the result of his improvisational and spontaneous approach to performers, his intuitive feeling for artistic truth, to bring to life specific dramatic or comic moments. Feb 14, 2021 Full Review Sergio F. Pinilla Cinemanía (Spain) A meticulous observation of reality. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 3/5 Nov 3, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews
