Audience Member Similarly-prompted and impactful as "Grizzly Man" compositing a darkly humane story by loved and associated ones over a grim fate driven by a topical passion in a fight that need to be reinforced by relevant importance, proven in remembrance to one modestly dedicated martyr with a voice referencing "Life is Beautiful". (B+) Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member James Foley was imprisoned in Tripoli detention center for 44 days and he was detained for being a journalist. He was released after 44 days, but even after that, he went back to cover the war and try to report what was going on in the region at the time. Jim is the story of war journalist James Foley, and his reporting in Syria and Libya his capture and imprisonment. His story is told to the viewer through interviews with some of his co-workers, family members and some other the other people. My opinion on the film is that it is well put together and it is interesting who they interview. The best interviews that are in the movie are the ones of the other ISIL hostages and hearing what it was like to be held by the group. I think that this movie shows how important it is to have people in conflict zones to report on what is actually going on, so that everyday people can understand. I feel like the tone of the movie is one of sadness and hope. Sadness from the fact that Jim was killed and also hope that people will try to report the truth and follow Jimï¿ 1/2(TM)s example. Movie Review ï¿ 1/2 1/2 1/2 1/2Jimï¿ 1/2 1/2 1/2 1/2ï¿ 1/2 1/2 1/2?, a documentary about the life of James Foley captures the story of a brave combat journalist trying to bring truth to the world behind the scenes of the troubles in Libya and Syria. He put his life on the line and became his true self in these violent settings. Not finding his place in a normal first world nation, he traveled around the world trying to find the truth in these horrible combat zones. James Foley is a true hero. His story starts off in his hometown, Woodborough New Hampshire. Here Foley grows up and lives a normal life of placid familiarity, where one can truly become themselves. This isn't quite what happened to Foley though. He lived a happy life, but he never grew to who he was. This would leave him going to college, not knowing what to do, and not having a grip on his inner self. Foley studied journalism and writing at Marquette University and UMass Amherst. He didn't become his true self, but he started to narrow down who he really was. Here he would figure out that he wanted to be a combat journalist and travel overseas. Here he started to become himself. Foleyï¿ 1/2 1/2 1/2 1/2(TM)s story really starts in 2000 when he traveled to Libya. A place in the Middle East where, as you might know, he gets captured. The movie depicts what happened here very well, and truly demonstrates the struggles he went through. Foley struggles hereatekey, but itï¿ 1/2 1/2 1/2 1/2(TM)s not his largest battle. Finally, Foley has a tragic end. This is no secret, for he was all over the news years ago, but he traveled to Syria. Here he was kidnapped by the ISIS terrorist group, and was punished greatly for his time in Libya, and other combat journalist adventures. He was beaten, kept prisoner, and was later killed on live TV. The terrorists finally forced him to lie to the world, but his parents and family would always know the truth. It was a very tragic end for James Foley, but I feel it was very necessary to have a documentary produced about his life. If the truth was not passed on the lives of other journalists would be at greater risk, and some might not be here today. This movie depicts the truth extremely well, and I feel it is a very moving movie. I would recommend it to anyone. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Jim: The James Foley story is a well made heartfelt documentary about a journalist who lost his life trying to inform the America people of events in the Middle East. James Foley was a journalist from New Hampshire who traveled to war zones multiple times as a freelancer and ends up being tortured and killed by Isis. The story is a crazy one with a lot of twists that leaves us with a stark reminder of the importance of free press. In one clip Jim said "There is physical courage, I have that. But that's nothing compared to moral courage. Without that we don't have journalism." Viewer are left feeling the importance of his words. I loved this 2016 film. The way it was produced had me on the edge of my seat the whole entire time. Director Brian Oakes interviews all of Jim's family members, as well as his colleagues, and other journalists who were imprisoned with him. Their stories and their perspectives are very powerful and tell the story of the film. I love the perspective of the family members because you get to hear the inside information on his past and the advice the give to him. The perspectives of the other journalists are great as well because they were in Jim's shoes and went through everything he went through. The interviews, how the plot flowed, and the mood were all great and keep the audience guessing what happens next the whole time. I will be giving this film 5 starts and think that every prospective journalist should watch this film to see the different types of journalism as well as the dangers of it. I really enjoyed this film and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to hear a great story about a true hero. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member A tear finally leaves my eye as the credits roll. The film captures perfectly the emotion of this journalistï¿ 1/2(TM)s story. Storytelling through the eyes of those around Jim make you feel as though you were one of his friends, experiencing everything that they went through. Though by no means a perfect movie, it succeeds in making you care. While documenting the man James Foley, it seems one-dimensional. Every message in the film is about how good of a person Jim was, and listening to someone elseï¿ 1/2(TM)s praises be sang for an hour can get old. The film was mostly procured from Foley himself, his colleagues, or interviews with his family. This focuses the lens on Jim, who himself would think it more appropriate to describe him though the lives he touched. Those sections which included such were the strongest parts of the film by far. In summary, if you would like to learn about the person that James Foley was, this movie is for you. If you want to learn about the places he covered, the reasons he was there, or learn about his articles, you may feel underwhelmed by what this film provides. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member James Foley is a movie about the true story of James Foley, an American combat photographer. I thought the movie was good for people who like long documentaries about real events. I liked how it touched upon the grim question of whether we should negotiate to free soldiers from captivity. After learning more about Jim's story, I am convinced this is something that we really should do. The movie also was emotional and meant to move audiences. It does all this by showing the emotions of all the photographers, James' family and the environment around them. It also shows emotion by having many scenes of combat where he was photographing and recording to show the world what was going on in these conflict areas. Many more emotional scenes were in prisons and from the people that live in the conflict areas. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
