Four high school kids discover an old video game console and are drawn into the game's jungle setting, literally becoming the adult avatars they chose. What they discover is that you don't just play Jumanji -- you must survive it. To beat the game and return to the real world, they'll have to go on the most dangerous adventure of their lives, discover what Alan Parrish left 20 years ago, and change the way they think about themselves -- or they'll be stuck in the game forever.

Audience Says

This reboot won’t blow your mind, but it’s an easy, funny, and action-packed summer flick made much better than it needed to be by standout performances from Jack Black and Kevin Hart.

Udita Jhunjhunwala Livemint This sequel has enough razzle-dazzle and laughs to make for a fun family entertainer. Jul 29, 2019 Full Review Robert Daniels 812filmreviews The myriad of ways this sequel could have ended in disaster were obvious and ripe. Nevertheless, against all odds, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is a good movie. Rated: 3/4 Aug 27, 2018 Full Review Roxana Hadadi Pajiba Expanding the world of a concept is great! But the story that Welcome to the Jungle is expanded for is yet another teen-self-actualization movie, the kind of thing we already received this year. May 7, 2018 Full Review Daniel Howat Next Best Picture Even with a simple plot, Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle is so flat-out hysterical that it’s a complete joy to watch. The film embraces the silly concept of being sucked into a video game, but never insults the audience’s intelligence. Rated: 7/10 May 19, 2022 Full Review Richard Trenholm CNET Dwayne Johnson is a jungle VIP in this entertaining sequel to the much-loved Robin Williams caper. Kevin P A really fun and hilarious soft reboot sequel that pays homage to the original while doing its own thing with having all these A-List celebrities play against type with some great action set pieces. I like how the movie opens where the last film left off with the board game washing up on the beach. It's cool that the board game adapts to the times by turning itself into a video game, which allows the film to have so much fun satirizing video game mechanics and action film tropes, such as the limited exposition dumping dialogue of NPC's or the unrealistic outfits and "dance-fighting" combat of modern female action leads. The film starts off okay with your run-of-the-mill teen story that you've already seen a million times. The selection of detention students feels pretty sugarcoated with how melodramatic the school counselor's discount Breakfast Club speech sounds. The gym class reasoning being the lamest of the group (seriously, does anyone in this school commit actual misdemeanors?). But thankfully, it's brief and serves its purpose well for the payoff of the characters switching bodies in the Jumanji world. The bulk of the movie's comedy comes from seeing all these A-List celebrities playing against type, like Dwayne Johnson's character acting like an incredibly awkward and timid dork who's always whining, or Kevin Hart's character getting possessed by frequent zoology trivia (as a wildlife post-grad, I can heavily relate). Jack Black easily steals the show as the valley girl. He starts off cliche with mostly phone jokes, but he soon gets better material and his subtle mannerisms are so freaking funny to the point that after a while you do buy that he's being possessed by a teenage Instagram influencer wannabe. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/18/25 Full Review Ben P It's a good movie. A few funny moments (which is what I look for in a movie) and just an overall good movie. Worth a watch but nothing too special. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/15/25 Full Review Nick E The movie solely hinges on the all-in performances from its actors. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/12/25 Full Review Josh Entertaining.
