Sean Axmaker Seanax.com One of di Leo's greatest strengths is his fascination with and focus on process and detail, and one of the pleasures of his mob movies is the detail with which he observes the execution of everything from a payoff to an assassination. Audience Member Another selection from the Fernando Di Leo set, this one reminded me a bit of a Kurosawa film that involved a poor child being kidnapped in the place of a rich one, but this goes off into much darker vigilante justice than the Japanese film ever did. Good stuff, a very solid film and worth tracking down if you have the chance. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member Very good action film because it wasn't just about action. It was about greed, it had drama and the lead is gorgeous. Lots of car chases and revenge too. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Luc Merenda is great. His role gives gravity to everything that happens. If all action movies and thrillers had such a reminder of seriousness and emotional torment, the genre wouldn't be as fun; men would go to movies with submachine guns in order to look sensitive. Merenda's performance is so important here, it overshadows Vittorio Caprioli, whose cadences are funny and precise, as usual. James Mason is good too. I wonder if he is moving his hands a lot because he's doing a movie for Italians. Di Leo gracefully uses everything's that here for easy pathos. The camerawork doesn't show off and it's not lunky either. The first half of Kidnap Syndicate is a commentary on the rich and the poor, the capitalist and the criminal; and the second is a better action movie than Man on Fire. This deserves to be remade. Luc could play the rich guy this time. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member When the son of a poor family is kidnapped along w/ a rich family's kid & the rich father refuses to pay a high ransom it has deadly consequences. The poor kid is murdered to enforce the severity of the kidnappers & Luc Merenda extracts revenge against those who killed his son. This seems a little too familiar @ times but after a poky first half Kidnap Syndicate picks up w/ a couple of pretty good chase scenes. Merenda's threatens his way through the ranks until he finds those truly responsible for his son's murder until he is can gun them down. Not a bad vigilante tale but nothing special Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Read all reviews
