What to Know

Critics Consensus

Laggies may not do as much with its ideas as it could, but it's buoyed by a winsome performance from Kiera Knightley, as well as Lynn Shelton's empathetic direction.

Emma Myers indieWire Even if the film doesn't leave much to ponder past the closing credits, it's enjoyable while it's unfolding, doing justice to the strengths of Shelton's ever-expanding filmography. Rated: B+ Aug 16, 2016 Full Review Inkoo Kang TheWrap Shelton's comedy isn't just smart, but cheerfully wise; not just funny, but cleverly and endlessly so. Nov 17, 2014 Full Review Mark Kermode Observer (UK) There are light and fluffy pleasures to be had from this disposable rom-com ... Nov 9, 2014 Full Review Richard Crouse Richard Crouse Fits the mold of a teen angst film, except the main character Megan is a clever twenty-something who never completely grew out of her angst. Rated: 3/5 Feb 2, 2021 Full Review Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com A nicely polished example of familiarity, genuine with its intentions and generally pleasing. Rated: 3/5 Sep 6, 2019 Full Review Patrick Gamble CineVue Whilst we don't go to the movies to make friends, it's hard to relate with these character's mundane existential predicaments from such a distant vantage. Audience Member Megan is right on the mark when she says that you cant base your existence on an imaginary future, you have to suck it up and go with your gut almost everyone has been stuck in a rut at some point in their lives they don't want things to move forward or change so much that they've lost sight of things Keira Knightly and Chloe Moretz are an awesome pair bouncing their lives off of each other; they got their own obstacles blocking their roads to life Sam Rockwell does very well as the father of Moretz, too his job is to break people apart while Megan herself tries not to director Lynn Shelton does a good job addressing growing up and making grown-up decisions, no one stays a kid forever A decade later and this is a cute harmless indie flick Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/24/24 Full Review Amanda L I didn’t enjoy having to turn a blind eye to the protagonist’s intrusion into the privacy of adolescence, even though she did ultimately grow into a semi-responsible aunty figure. But I did want to see what Knightly and Rockwell could do together, and their performances were super engaging. Yes, the ethics were flawed and kept me at arm’s length throughout, but if you’re a Rockwell fan you might enjoy watching him once again turn lead into gold. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/26/24 Full Review steve d This premise should not work but between the cast and a fun script it does. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review ashley h Laggies is an okay film. It is about Megan who panics when her boyfriend proposes. Keira Knightley and Chloe Grace Moretz give decent performances. The script is a little slow in places. Lynn Shelton did an alright job directing this movie. I liked this motion picture because of the humor and drama. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member I enjoyed this movie more than I thought I would. the story is a bit odd but I found it very entertaining.
