Audience Member Even if the message is good, it doesn't teach anything to the audience that search a motivation for life. Furthermore is frustrating that the movie makes funny jokes about the saddest problem in the modern society Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member A wonderful animated film that dares to thread into that middle-ground where it's too dark for kids, and "too light for adults". In other words it's a great flick if you're bored but don't want to watch something heavy, or if you're an adult who's fan of regular cartoon shows. The art is beautiful, rich with details and character which greatly lend to the atmosphere. The soundtrack is equally good, and the songs, while not the most memorable, are still a cut above most movies. The plot is entertaining enough to keep you interested throughout the movie, and it got me both sad and outright laughing. However, the mood of the story has a tendency to jump around, one minute a character can be the embodiment of evil, the other you're supposed to feel sorry for them. Sometimes you're supposed to read the characters deeply like real people, the next you're back to cartoon antics. It's a bit jarring, and will definitely deter some people. Personally I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, I love movies which thread the tone between dark and comedy. The story has a good moral, and because it doesn't shy away from showing death (and nudity) the moral actually comes across strongly instead of being hammered down like in most shows. The visuals are absolutely gorgeous and huge inspiration or an artist like me. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review filippo v The animations are good but the movie's main theme is weak and stupid, suicide is something you can't describe with such superficiality. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member Uma idéia tão original merecia um desenvolvimento mais consistente. Mas a originalidade vale a espiada. Liam Lacey Globe and Mail Too grisly for kids, or at least their ticket-buying parents. At the same time, the bouncy musical numbers with their contorted rhymes are unlikely to be embraced by any self-respecting Goth teen. Rated: 2/4 Nov 30, 2012 Full Review Rob Salem Toronto Star The animation is great, in its stark, mostly monochromatic way, but the music merely serviceable. Rated: 3/4 Nov 29, 2012 Full Review Emanuel Levy EmanuelLevy.Com The ever-diverse Patrice Leconte has made an original, darkly humorous animation about a store assisting suicidals. Rated: 3/4 Mar 7, 2013 Full Review Amber Wilkinson Eye for Film This is a film of two halves, with the half involving sweetness and light muddled and limp in comparison to its tougher, more sinister flipside, while the ending is almost unforgivably trite.
