The Baycrest retirement home in Toronto is not a happy place to visit. Here a woman weeps over a son who never visits. There a man endlessly paces the halls with nowhere to go. Everywhere are signs of once full and happy lives now come to grief. Documentary filmmaker Allan King casts an unflinching eye on the ugly side of old age, detailing in particular the ravages of Alzheimer's and senility within this small but, as we're given to understand, very typical community.
