Critics Consensus

Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle brings impressive special effects to bear on the darker side of its classic source material, but loses track of the story's heart along the way.

Andrea Gronvall Chicago Reader Unlike Jon Favreau's insipid 2016 live-action retread... this live-action adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's classic about a feral Indian boy reared by wolves teems with flesh, blood, and mud, conveying a true sense of danger and adventure. Mar 10, 2020 Full Review David Sims The Atlantic The film feels painfully incomplete, from its frequently told story to its weak visuals. Dec 21, 2018 Full Review Radheyan Simonpillai NOW Toronto The movie is not without its flaws, but its failures are far more fascinating than whatever made Favreau's safely engineered adaptation a success. Janel M Absolutely love this real life remake! I’m a big fan!!!💞 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/25/25 Full Review Anthony I They invested a lot of work and resources info this movie. The CGI is absolutely fantastic. The actor is good as well. ... however, I didn't feel it. It was like the movie was lacking purpose. So much happened in this movie and yet it felt like nothing significant was happening. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/05/25 Full Review Igor S I finally watched this, after a few years of holding back. I never watched the Disney one(probably the only Disney movie i haven't watched completely), because i was never drawn to it. I watched the live action one that came out in 2016 and really liked it. This one is supposed to be closer to the book, which i have never read... I have to say, this is certainly not a bad movie. It has it's deep moments about family and acceptance; what someone's path is or can be; the labels we put on others and even ourselves, among other things. Having said that, it is also not good enough to be a great movie or leave an ever lasting effect. It also doesn't help that it seemed like some things were cut out of the movie in the editing room and that it felt rushed near the end. Overall, i think it's good enough to be watchable but don't expect it to be a positive and lighthearted experience. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/05/25 Full Review Audience Member One of the most beautiful films I've seen since Braveheart, L.O.T.R , and border line the ending of the Last Of the Mohicans....great film in decades....I loved every second of this movie... Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/04/25 Full Review Kiandra N The grim brothers version of the jungle book, good but not to good, although it is accurate to the book. Anyway, despite the accuracy, i have no such pleasure while watching it. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/07/24 Full Review B - 1 5 stars for CGI effects. The attention to detail is at such an expert level. The story feels off at times, wasn't entirely connected to the human protagonist. Having said all of that. Not for kids. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/24/24 Full Review Read all reviews
