Ten years ago, an inexperienced coal miner named Tom Hanniger (Jensen Ackles) caused an accident that killed five men and put a sixth, Harry Warden, into a coma. A year later, on Valentine's Day, Harry woke up and murdered 22 people with a pickaxe before dying. Now Tom has returned home, still haunted by the past. And something else is back in Harmony: a pickaxe-wielding killer in a miner's mask, who may be the ghost of Harry, come to claim Tom and his friends.

Critics Consensus

This gory, senses-assaulting slasher film is an unpretentious, effective mix of old-school horror stylings and modern 3D technology.

Tammy Oler Bitch Media My Bloody Valentine has lously gender politics for a slasher movie, and that's both disappointing and disconcerting because the film has probably made enough money to merit a sequel and inspire other 3D horror movies. Dec 18, 2020 Full Review Rick Bentley Tribune News Service Toss in first-rate 3D and the movie not only pays a proper homage to the 1981 original but kicks it up about 1,000 notches. Rated: 3/4 Apr 27, 2020 Full Review Kevin C. Johnson St. Louis Post-Dispatch In the end, the movie is a true blood-splashed valentine to fans of the cheesy genre that spawned it. Rated: 2.5/4 Apr 24, 2020 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review The movie provides a few hearty laughs, a profusion of nonsensical stupidity, and plenty of so-bad-it’s-good moments to entertain viewers in the back row, whispering to each other about the inanity of it all. Rated: 2.5/4 Dec 15, 2023 Full Review Stephanie Archer Film Inquiry This film may be a remake of the 1981 classic but it creates its own identity, carving out its own place within the horror genre Feb 18, 2023 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins Solving the crime and cheering on heroes is something of a lost cause, as most of the roles are just unintelligent enough to inspire disgust. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/16/25 Full Review Hansolo D This movie is so trash. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/15/25 Full Review SkyRo P I recently checked out the 2009 remake of My Bloody Valentine, which is based on the classic horror film from the 1980s. The story centers around a troubled kid and a mineshaft that seems to be the source of a string of murders in a small town. After a decade, the plot takes some unexpected turns, but the overall twist is fairly predictable from the start. Unfortunately, I found the film to be quite lacking. It didn’t employ effective scare tactics, and the script felt disjointed and unengaging. Watching it left me with a rather unpleasant feeling, as I struggled to stay interested in the storyline. Just because an actor has gained fame on television doesn’t guarantee their success on the big screen. Some may take time to adapt, while others may never make that leap. Personally, I didn't enjoy the film; it struck me as cheesy and chaotic. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/25 Full Review Oaklee D I've said it before and I'll say it again, this film is a lot better than the original. It's a fun cheese fest with some awesome kills and I just can't help but love it. It was definitely made to be seen in 3D which hasn't aged well at all in parts of the film but overall doesn't hurt the much too much. I'd say go check this one out. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/22/25 Full Review James B The beginning isn't too great and the whole film just feels lackluster and the CGI effects aren't great.
