Rob Rector Film Threat DiLorenzo and crew should be commended for crafting a smaller feature that, with a bit more polish, could easily be fleshed out into a provocative big-budget drama. Rated: 7/10 Aug 2, 2020 Full Review Rich Cline Shadows on the Wall There's a witty idea at the centre of this low-budget drama, which uses the language of cinema itself to add refreshing twists to the audience's perception of what's happening on-screen. Rated: 4/5 Jul 29, 2020 Full Review Frank Swietek One Guy's Opinion While its treatment of the theme of illusion versus reality is hardly profound, it allows DiLorenzo to indulge in some engaging if silly narrative sleight-of-hand. Audience Member An intelligently made, appropriately unnerving film. Love to see indies like this with premises you wouldn't necessarily find in the mainstream. It feels novel and fresh, with excellent performances. Kudos to director Brian DiLorenzo. Recommend. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review tim b Just a very well-made independent film. Well written and directed with an excellent cast. The leads each pull you in, albeit in different ways. Intentionally unsettling, but also very griping. You might want to look away, but the movie will keep you turning back to gaze. It made me think a little of Kieslowski's classic, Camera Buff. Where the lines between art and life get so blurred, one easily stands in for another. A really fine film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review catherane s A wonderful take on being subservient to a professed Idol, thereby giving one's power away due to lack of self-awareness and of belief in oneself. Though a little slow at times, I liked the script and how the film cleverly plays out. Impressed with the lighting and direction. A big plus, the lead actors were very good, especially Justin Andrew Davis, playing Alex, who gives an impressive and nuanced performance. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Susan B This indie really surprised me. Compelling, creepy story with good acting and a director who was able to pull off the thrills and, believe it or not, the comedy. It's dark comedy, mind you, but it works. Plenty of great stuff here. Glad I took a chance on it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/22/22 Full Review Audience Member I was blown away by this film! Even more blown away when I found out it was a directorial debut. This is truly masterful cinema- when we hear the phrase "this is why we go to the movies" it's usually in reference to a summer blockbuster or an Oscar-bait melodrama, but this kind of film is why I go to the movies. Weird, wonderful, surreal yet clearly influenced by the ultra-realism of Dogme95, with a highly skillful small cast, this film drags you in and begs you to be a participant rather than a spectator. The story is more layered than at first expected, so it definitely deserves a second viewing to get the whole experience. I got hints of Broken Flowers, Synecdoche New York, and Mandy; and the score was outstanding as well. I don't think I've encountered a more fitting soundtrack for a film since Harold and Maude. If you're a true film fan, or fan of any kind of art really, give it a chance. Can't wait to see what else the director has in store.
