Revenge of the Nerds II: Nerds in Paradise

What to Know

Critics Consensus

It reunites most of the original cast and rounds them up for a trip to Fort Lauderdale for spring break, but Revenge of the Nerds II: Nerds in Paradise forgets to pack enough jokes or compelling characters to make it through its 89-minute running time.

Michael Wilmington Los Angeles Times 05/21/2013
It's a gross parody of its original. And since the original was a gross parody to begin with, the whole thing begins to seem gaseous, overbright, hideously inflated, as if all the bodily function jokes were about to belch it right off the screen. Go to Full Review

By all evidence, to make Nerds II, it took over 1,000 people with an aggregate IQ of under 1. Go to Full Review

Nerds triumph in '80s comedy; some sex, profanity, drugs. Go to Full Review

If these guys are so smart, why do they win their final victory with nothing more subtle than a punch in the mouth, backed up by a military tank? Go to Full Review

See more Horror fan 4 01/31/2024 A nice follow up to the 1984 classic. Was a little disappointed that Anthony Edwards was just a minor player in this one but it still was very funny and entertaining. Tim Treakle See more Erik B 11/13/2023 A decent but silly follow-up to the 1984 classic. This movie follows a lot of the same beats as the original, but in new locations. Most of the crew returns, faithfully filling out their stereotypes. See more 04/04/2022 At the thirtieh anniversary of Revenge of the Nerds, Julia Montgomery (Betty) revealed that she originally had a scene in this movie, but turned it down, as it had her cheating on Lewis (Robert Carradine) with a jock. She felt that after her character fell in love at the end of the first movie — never mind that whole weird assault thing — it just didn't feel right to cheat on her nerdy man. She was right and understood her character better than the filmmakers. This was also the last time that Anthony Edwards would play Gilbert, as he shot all of his scenes in one day. As for the rest of the Lambda Lambda Lambdas, they're headed to Fort Lauderdale for the national fraternity convention. Yet even amongst their own brothers, the Lambdas of Adams College are attacked at every turn. Now, they're up against Bradley Whitford as Roger Latimer — finally Ted McGinley is the one getting replaced — and Ed Lauter, who has stopped bothering Charles Bronson to ruin the hijinks for our geektastic protagonists. And how did James Cromwell get cast in this? That said, I do love that Ogre (Donald Gibb) joins the Lambdas, as well as James Hong playing Booger's mentor, Edgar Poe "Snotty" Wong. I guess you can't expect the sequel to teen sex comedies to live up to the dream of the original. Then they made two more of these, including one where inevitably the nerds win and become the bullies they once hated. See more 08/02/2021 A little better than the first. See more 02/20/2021 Though the first 'Nerds' movie is an absolute classic, I can't say the bar for the sequel was too high, but they still somehow completely blew it with this one. Gilbert isn't in most of the movie. None of the Adams Villains are back except for Ogre randomly hanging with other jocks. They tried to create some fake Lewis/Betty magic with a new blonde. The storyline isn't compelling whatsoever and it's a struggle to find a legit laugh the whole way through. While you find yourself "rooting" for the nerds in the climax of the original, you're just kind of over it by the end of this one. See more Read all reviews
