What to Know

Critics Consensus

Undisciplined, scatological, profoundly silly, and often utterly groan-worthy, Robin Hood: Men in Tights still has an amiable, anything-goes goofiness that has made it a cult favorite.

Johanna Steinmetz Chicago Tribune Robin Hood: Men In Tights, Brooks' spoof of the Robin Hood legend, gets off to a creaky start before it loosens up and produces laughs. Rated: 2.5/4 Dec 7, 2018 Full Review Angie Errigo Empire Magazine To say that this is the funniest film Mel Brooks has co-written, produced and directed in some years is, alas, not saying very much. Rated: 2/5 Dec 7, 2018 Full Review Gene Siskel Chicago Tribune A most disappointing Mel Brooks movie parody that suggests that the once hilarious Brooks has completely lost his way. Rated: 0.5/4 Dec 7, 2018 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins Though it’s consistently amusing (yet largely toothless in its originality and edge), there isn't a wealth of laugh-out-loud moments. Rated: 6/10 Aug 9, 2023 Full Review Bill Cosford Miami Herald The movie is not nearly as bawdy as it needs to be. Or as smart, either. Rated: 2/4 Aug 18, 2021 Full Review Marilynne S. Mason Christian Science Monitor Robin Hood is surely one of Mel Brooks's worst disasters. Mar 27, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Dan J A fun watch. Many good jokes and some awesome slapstick moments. The middle part is a bit slower, otherwise it's a fun ride. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/11/25 Full Review Ella M All of you haters have no idea how ingenious this comic parody is, and what a joy it is to share in the fun the actors and crew and especially Mel Brooks are having on set. It never ceases to deliver laughs and smiles and connection for me with my childhood - where I first learned that humor was the most effective way for flowing through the painful and ridiculous parts of life. Also Kevin Costner is walking talking absurdist theater and he refuses to see it. Somebody had to stick it to him … with love! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/01/25 Full Review Dani G The same silly, exaggerated humor of other Mel Brooks' films Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/08/25 Full Review Dave H. Well, he was funny in the 70’s. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/22/25 Full Review Horror fan 4 Mel Brooks at his best again with this classic. Great characters and music. A lot of laughs for everyone. Tim Treakle Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/30/25 Full Review r96 s 'Robin Hood: Men in Tights' is a film that I can see the appeal for. For me, I 'only' found it to be noticeably amusing, as in I don't think I actually laughed once but I was constantly appreciating the many gags that arrive; smirks aplenty, for sure. I'm happy I've finally got it watched. Of the cast, Cary Elwes obviously stands out most. I'm not overly into him as an actor, though I would say he was a strong fit for this one. Richard Lewis and Roger Rees are the best of the rest in my opinion, while Mark Blankfield, Patrick Stewart and director Mel Brooks have solid minor roles. Despite seeing over 2,700 movies, this makes for my first Mel Brooks film. I do have some bewildering blind spots, it's gotta be said; e.g. Alfred Hitchcock is another. Brooks' 'Blazing Saddles' is one I plan to see soon. As for this? Good. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/03/25 Full Review Read all reviews
