Simon Abrams Village Voice Stands as a prime example of Meyer's infantile and sometimes disarmingly protean perversity. Aug 13, 2013 Full Review Variety Staff Variety Russ Meyer's film is another of his technically polished sexplicit dramas, this time free of physical violence and brutality, and hyped with some awkwardly developed draft-dodging and patriotism angles. Jan 11, 2008 Full Review Paul Taylor Time Out The film that showed Meyer to have the most dynamic editing style in American cinema, and took him from nudie king to national monument via the most outrageous exploitation of bosom buddydom ever. Jan 26, 2006 Full Review Fernando F. Croce CinePassion A furiously inspired anthology of lusty American fixations Nov 19, 2009 Full Review TV Guide Staff TV Guide Equally popular with both male and female viewers, Vixen is a take-charge woman who gets what she wants. Audience Member Boring trash with some underwhelming naked skin. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member An inventive film from legendary indie filmaker Russ Meyer : a joyful sex comedy where there's no stop to the female leading character's passions. I won't get into details, because that would be spoiling, but I can tell you : the situations Vixen gets into in this picture are quite hilarious. Smart and against the grain : a true Meyer classic, and probably his last great film. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Kinda short & not much of a story but, the women are sexy as hell. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie is Russ Meyer's classic Sexploitation movie. There's no real sex. There never is in a Russ Meyer movie. There are just lots of women with really big boobs. It's set and filmed in British Columbia Canada. The main character is the wife of a fishing guide at a fishing lodge. He flies in customers who just happen to have wives with big tits. Russ Meyer never bothered to have his movies rated so they have an automatic X rating although it's probably only an R rated movie. After all the nude scenes he throws in some political commentary. In this movie he makes the main character an obvious racist. Then he gives her brother a black friend for her to call all kinds of outdated racist slurs. He then makes the last customer an Irish Communist member of the Irish Republican Army. He tries to highjack the fishing guide's airplane to Cuba. Why is never explained and why did he think he could fly a four seat airplane across the United States without being caught when they stopped for gas. It just gave Russ Meyer a chance to give his opinion of Communism and Racism. It also allows his movies to be shown in places where movies had to have a non-sexual plot to not be labeled as pornography. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the most famous and representative films of sixties American X rated films, perhaps only second to Deep Throat. It's hard to find any significant plot to this film, though the character's obsession with sex is all too clear. Fans of the genre will appreciate its style, that is just idiosyncratic of the times. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Skin flick auteur Russ Meyer tries to explore depraved sexuality in some of its most base demonstrations (infidelity, lesbianism, and even incest), when all the while, there are strange conversations about Vietnam War dodging, racism, and Communism interspersed. Such heavy themes seem pretty out of place in a skin flick such as this, but because Russ Meyer has both an eye for buxom babes and satirical wit, the strange combination lends the film a bit charm.
