Documentary filmmaker Yulene Olaizola's film is set against the backdrop of her grandmother Rosa Carbajal's Mexico City boarding house, at the intersection of streets named for two storied scribes. Rosa recalls her encounters with her most memorable tenant, an artist named Jorge Riosse. Sexually ambiguous and mentally ill, Jorge devoted much of his time to his idiosyncratic paintings, and the film deals with his death, his art and circumstantial evidence pointing to his much darker side.

Erick Estrada Cinegarage A completely personal documentary that deciphers Yulene Olaizola's own mysteries tied to her grandmother's house. One of the biggest surprises of Mexican cinema this year. [Full review in Spanish] Dec 2, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Personaje interesante e historia increible. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Interesante y diferente. A forma de documental con la eccentrica Sra. Carbajal siendo un gran, gran personaje. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Maravillosa, inolvidable; una historia perfectamente contada y un lenguaje cinematográfico y el sonido son excelentes Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member It wasn't bad but it had to be more straighforward for me to like it. Nevertheless, it was a very appealing story... Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a documentary originally just shot as a school project, but it turned out so darn good it became way more than that. Yulene interviews her grandmother, Rosa, a beautiful old lady who lives in New Mexico and owns a big house that she used to rent out to people. The main subject of the interview is one of these people, a guy named Jorge that died 15 years ago. The two of them became very close during the five years he lived there and she is cooking over with stories to tell thinking back. You get to see lots of Jorge's artwork, poems, drawings, and some recordings she made of him. The movie starts very pure and bright, painting this dead guy into a saint from everything she and her maid has to say of him, but then suddenly it twists and turns in another direction. This story was so fascinating and sad but Rosa and Jorge somehow made it sparkle, it's really a must see, following her around in that big dark house with secrets peeking out at us from all of the corners. The documentary/interview shows just how life actually can be quite mysterious, dark, sad and sparkling at the same time.
