There's no shortage of blarney in Stella Days, helmer Thaddeus O'Sullivan's largely winning drama about '50s rural Ireland, but it's blarney with a twist. Go to Full Review

Soft Irish accents and good intentions aren't enough to save the poky Irish drama "Stella Days," set in a small town on the cusp of change in the 1950s. Go to Full Review

Relaxed performances and pillow-soft photography compensate somewhat for the story's narrow ambitions, but they're not enough to invigorate a movie that clearly would rather charm than challenge. Go to Full Review

This is a piece of cinema that is, in itself, a love letter to the form and well worth another look back if anyone missed it the first time around. Go to Full Review

Working from a script as uneven as his accent, Sheen turns in an otherwise strong performance, but the sanitized Stella Days generates no real spark. Go to Full Review

Sheen powerfully conveys his character's crisis of faith and the lightweight film captures its bleak setting and quirky townsfolk. Go to Full Review

Stephen C @bob25009 May 28 Martin Sheen's biggest movie failure in just 1 hour and 27 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!! See more Gaylord R 05/04/2024 Maybe you'll have to be Irish and/or Catholic to relate this this amazing piece of powerful storytelling, so human, so deep, so moving, so true to real life. Martin Sheen and the whole cast were utterly believable, portraying their respective characters with such warmth and integrity that my words of praise cannot adequately express. But, again, you'll not be able to feel any of that unless you are, at least tangentially, connected to this amazing culture and religion. But if you at least know someone with this background, this stellar film will help you understand them. See more 08/23/2017 This movie isn't Academy Award stuff but it's still excellent. One of my favorite movies ever (and I'm almost 70!). I don't buy DVDs -- but I bought this movie. See more 03/16/2013 Nice movie.. A small town cinema in rural Ireland in the 1950s becomes the setting for a dramatic struggle between Rome and Hollywood, and a man and his conscience. Martin Sheen stars as Father Daniel Berry in a story about the excitement of the unknown versus the security of the familiar, as those in the town find themselves on the cusp of the modern but still clinging to the traditions of church and a cultural identity forged in very different times. -- (C) Tribeca Film (****ON NETFLIX****) See more 01/09/2013 Even though it had Martin Sheen and was filmed in Ireland, I didn't really think it was anything new. A priest struggling to get his congregation up to current times, an affair, violent husband, and a greedy bishop. Not much new.
